There are pillars on Teth Courtyard that are not square walls, but rather octogons. I know that you can walk in between these, but can you attack? And, if so, can you use melee attacks in between these octogons? In the narrow space in between?

No, the walls go to the edge of the square for LOS and adjacency purposes. This is covered in the FAQ.
