Is Djem So Style optional?

For example, if Grand Master Luke makes an attack against Jar Jar Binks, but ends up attacking himself because of Bombad Gungan, does he have to make attacks against himself if he makes the save? Also, does he make extra attacks against himself if he makes the Djem So Style save again? If so, I have just found out the most efficient method of defeating GMLS. I hope that this works, because I have a friend with him, and it would be hilarious to see Jar Jar make GMLS beat himself to death.

"Whenever this character is hit by a melee attack, make a save of 11. On a success, this character can make an immediate attack against that attacker." So yes, Djem So Style is optional. It is possible to make the attacker hit himself via the Bombad Gungan ability, however I do not believe that the Djem So Style save would work in such a way that the attacker would repeatedly keep hitting himself, since a character cannot legally target himself with an attack. Only the initial attack would be redirected by Bombad Gungan (at least that's my interpretation of the situation).

The save is not optional, but the attack is.

I'm asking this because of a previous topic called "I will make you hurt". I'm a bit confused on what can means because these topics are a bit contradictory.

Can is an ugly, confusing word for SWM. You pretty much have to use experience and context to determine which can is being used in the entry.
