hey so ive never played in a tourny before and im just wondering what are the rules like on time and how are ways you win (ive heard there is more then just defeating all characters) and i read some reports and some say like 3 points or 2 points what does that mean

Dan, you only play for the length of the rounds (usually its an hour.) In that time you have to score the amount of points of the format through defeating your opponents pieces and collecting Gambit points by having a non-reinforcement piece worth more 5 or more ending the round within 3 squares of the centre of the map. If when time has run out and you don't score the full amount of the format, just more than your opponent you win the match but only receive 2 points for the win as opposed to a full win which is 3 points. Technically gambit is within 4 squares of the center of the map, but the center on almost all maps is a point. Moving diagonally from that point into an adjacent square counts as moving 2. Then two more squares beyond those adjacent squares.
(The only exception is the hard-backed map from the Revenge of the Sith starter set, which winds up having an enormous gambit zone by comparison.)
