If you're 12 away and you could make it to the Ganner. Could you attack and move 6 towards the Ganner or must you forgo the attack and move 12 in order to base him?

you must move adjacent if possible. What that means is if you can get adjacent to this piece with your normal movement (Including double move) than you must even if it prevents you from attacking.

So if Ganner is 8 away from you, you wouldn't be able to attack and move 6, leaving you 2 away, you'd have to move the 8 and forgo attacking completely?
