According to this thread there wasn't a Wisconsin Regional in 2012 http://www.bloomilk.com/Forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=10778If you want to take over organizing it, go for it, I'm sure Johnny's Mom won't mind.

ok, as someone who has organized a couple, here are the basics.
1. You need local people to play in a competitive environment. Being in Wisconsin you are probably going to get some players from Illinois coming up, but the Chicago Regional last year had like 8 players so you need to have a strong, reliable local base of players. If you've got this, then you've probably got the next step covered, as well. 8 players is considered the absolute bare bones minimum for a Regional. The format is always the same as the Gencon Championship, 200 pts Restricted Map List SWMGPA Floor Rules.
2. You need a venue. The thing with the Regionals that makes them different from regular tournaments is they have a higher entrance fee, to cover the cost of a Gencon Badge for the winner. Typically $15-20 a player. The rest of the pot is split with the finishers in order as store credit at the venue. The organizer, needs to make sure the owner of the store is on board with this and has your support. The last thing you want is to have the owner tell you your off the schedule or your moved because of some other event (MTG >:( ) is scheduled for the same day and time.
3. You need a judge. Someone to make the tough calls and is familiar with the rules (and ALL the Vsets) who is experienced running events. The judge can play if they are very experienced and everyone is comfortable with that. There should not be a problem as long as a certain resident of Wisconsin is not allowed to be the judge.
4. The Regional tournament has a top cut of the final 4. This means that you have a tournament after the tournament to determine the ultimate winner.
5. Extra prize support. Custom minis, trophies, promos, boosters, maps, miscellaneous prizes are all staples of a Regional event.
If you've got all that covered, pick a date during Regional Season and you're in. Then it's all promote, promote, promote where ever and as often as you can.

Any idea how to get all the extra prizes without paying out of own pocket? Also, who should not be judge?

As I told him, Mark and Tim from Star Wars Miniverse have organized this event the last 2 years. The intention was to continue it in Janesville. Ultimately we want to have the best event we can with as good of a turnout possible. We are in the process of getting a date figured out and wanted to keep you guys involved too.
