Hi everyone, this has come up multiple times in games that I have played. They say that if you move somewhere and say you are attacking a character and then find out that you cannot attack that person (because they have cloaked or stealth) that you cannot keep moving after that. Is this true?

There really is no set rule. Honestly, this falls more under good sportsmanship. The opponent is within his rights to keep you to what you actually did, though I feel taking away the rest of your movement is a little too harsh. I feel it is good sportsmanship to allow you to take back the actions if it turns the attack couldn't be done. Others may feel different, and it is up to the judge or your opponent in casual play.

My rule is you can't go back once a die is rolled.

In minis most of us don't play with "chess rules" (once you take your hand off the piece it's done). Most of us play where you can move your piece(s) to several positions, measure LoS, etc - and you haven't actually started the turn until you either A) Roll a die, or B) say "I'm done", or "That's my move" and the next activation starts.

But in this case, a die wasn't (or shouldn't have been) rolled, and nobody said they were done.

So (IMO) it should have gone like this:
Player A: I'm moving my guy to here and shooting your guy
Player B: You can't, he's cloaked
Player A: Oh yeah, I'll do this instead
Player B: Go ahead

Always make sure both players agree before rolling a die. "I am attacking (blank) with (blank)" "OK"

SO in this case I would to

I agree with everything you guys said but when I play (with my friends including Gungan Batman Clone) the issue is when someone moves, says they're done moving, and then realizes they can't do what they wanted to do, and want to either continue moving or change their move.

I can be technical at times (and by "at times" I mean "all the time) and will say they can't move. Of course, they turn this rule back on me times. It sounds like "until a dice is rolled" rule and the other things TimmerB123 suggested would work better.

Agreed by that time you should have all the info necessary to make your decision.
