Target an enemy (range: sight) or an ally within line of sight. They make a save of 11. If they fail, then that character takes an immediate turn under your control. However, they cannot move during the turn granted.

Basically, you have a 50% chance of taking control of an enemy for a turn or giving an ally an extra turn.

They cannot move, so no you cannot make them walk into a pit.

And to piggyback off of what Emperor Dragon said, targeting rules apply only to try and dominate an enemy. When trying to dominate an ally targeting rules do not apply, you just have to have LOS. The ally part threw me when I first used dominate.

Yes. You must first have LOS to an enemy in order to target them. For an ally, just LOS, no targeting rules.

So if I didn't have sight, I could not dominate someone on the other side of the map? Then why does it say target and not line of sight

Whenever something says "target" it means targeting rules apply. So when using dominate against an enemy, that enemy must be a legal target.

My understanding is that the game mechanics never allow you to actually target an ally therefore in the case of using dominate on an ally you simply need line of sight to that character.
