Ok, I was making some custom Sith trooper variations, and I didn't know if they needed 'Trooper' (this character counts as a character named Sith trooper) to count for ST CE's. Their names contain Sith Trooper (I.E. Sith Trooper [__] or Sith [__] Trooper). I know characters whose name contains 'Pilot' don't need the Pilot SA to count for Pilot benefits and such, but I didn't know if it worked the same for other things.

Also, I wasn't sure if Commander Cody's rapport for Clone Trooper would work on, say 'Clone Trooper' Grenadiers, or Elite 'Clone Trooper's?

Thanks in advance!

1. It really depends. Things that refer to just "Sith Troopers" refers to all troopers of the Sith faction, but if it is named/name contains Sith Trooper, it is required for it to be in their name.

2. Cody only applies to Clone Troopers. This is covered under named/name contains portion of the glossary.

Like with pilot, tooper works with both the name and the ability, so a Sith trooper would be considered anybody from the Sith faction with Trooper in their name or the Trooper ability.

Cody's rapport will only work with characters that have the exact name "Clone Trooper". If the wording for an ability contains named, it has to be an exact match. "Name contains" works with anything with the word(s) in their name.

Ok, thanks guys! So as long as 'Sith' and 'Trooper' are in the name, it counts for 'name contains Sith Trooper', or 'Sith Trooper allies', but not 'named sith trooper' (unless they have Trooper SA).

So why is it that the Basillisk War Droid doesn't count as a Droid?

I assume it's because the Droid SA actually does something (not subject to CE or Critical Hits) whereas the Trooper and Pilot SAs just adjust the name of a piece.

Becasue the glossary definition of Droid does not say that "characters with the word 'Droid' in the name are considered to have this ability". Compare it to the definitions for Trooper and Pilot.

Not quite. If it's "name contains Sith Trooper", then 'Sith Trooper' has to be one complete string in the character's name. A Sith Elite Trooper would not benefit from an ability that targets "characters whose name contains Sith Trooper", but an Elite Sith Trooper would.

The most infamous example of this is how the Yuuzhan Vong Subaltern's CE will not work with the Yuuzhan Vong Elite Warrior.

Sith doesn't have to be in the name, either. Sith refers to the faction. "Trooper" (usually, "trooper" with a lower-case t) refers to the trooper designation, which could come from having the Trooper SA or from having trooper in the name. See Rebel Captain, for example. The lower-case t indicates it's all Rebel troopers... including Elite Hoth Trooper for example, even though it doesn't have Rebel in the name.

And again, it depends on how it is referenced.

"Name contains/named Sith Trooper", Sith needs to be in the name or have an sa to make it count as if it is named that.

"Sith Trooper", any trooper of the Sith faction.

OH. So, Name Contains/Named = Sith Trooper,
Sith Trooper [__],
[__] Sith Trooper
or Trooper SA.

Just specifying Sith Trooper = Trooper from Sith faction
or Sith [__] Trooper.

Golly these technicalities can be confusing.

Thanks all for your help!ThumbsUp

Name contains "Sith Trooper" =
Sith Trooper
[___] Sith Trooper
Sith Trooper [___]
[___] Sith Trooper [___]
Trooper SA (as long as it specifies something like "counts as a character named Sith Trooper")

Named "Sith Trooper" =
Sith Trooper
Trooper SA (as long as it specifies "counts as a character named Sith Trooper")
(Note that the Elites, etc. don't count here because the name must match exactly.)

Sith trooper =
Sith faction + Trooper in name or Trooper SA
