I like the character and the addition of another Galactic Hero. Most of all, I like the stats of this piece. There are a few inclusions that don't feel Luke-ish at first glance but with a bit of consideration, it works. Here are the particulars:

40/60 New Republic

Luke Skywalker, Galactic Hero. Cost 48

HP: 120
Def: 20
Att: +11
Dam: 20

Unique
Melee Attack
Double Attack
Greater Mobile Attack
Ataru Style Mastery
Jedi Hunter
Synergy +2 (Fringe allies with a Force rating, get +2 attack while within 6 squares of this character)

Force 2, Force Renewal 1, Master of the Force 2
Knight Speed
Lightsaber Defense
Lightsaber Throw 3

CE: Allies with a Force rating gain Greater Mobile Attack.

I'd like to start a discussion to maximize this piece in a 200 pt squad.

My first though when building with LGH was to capitalize on his CE. I also wanted a big shooter as I feel Luke is a very solid melee piece. Cade was the first candidate and as a bonus, he also benefits from Luke's Synergy. Mara Smuggler also benefits from the +2 Atk and with the droids she gains Twin. Yoda doles out Force points which allows Cade multiple heals and Mara multiple Focused Attacks.

--Luke GH--
61 Cade Skywalker, Bounty Hunter
48 Luke Sywalker, Galactic Hero
27 Mara Jade, Smuggler
22 R2-D2 and C-3PO, Galactic Heroes
20 Yoda, Force Spirit
6 Mouse Droid x2
15 Ugnaught Demolitionist x5

My second attempt was a little more unorthodox. At 25 points, Jaina is much more appealing with GMA. As a bonus, she allows the use of a Rebel Han. I opted for RebGen. He is very solid with Opp +20 and GMA. As an added bonus, he gives Luke Evade making him much more difficult for shooters to dispatch. Like my first squad, I opted for Mara Suggler and the Droids. Unlike that squad, I opted for Leia JK. With free rerolls of Evade, Han and Luke should have significant staying power.

--Luke GH, Jaina, HanRebGen--
48 Luke Skywalker, Galactic Hero
38 Han Solo, Rebel General
27 Mara Jade, Smuggler
25 Jaina Solo
25 Leia Skywalker, Jedi Knight
22 R2-D2 and C-3PO, Galactic Heroes
6 Mouse Droid x2
9 Ugnaught Demolitionist x3

(200pts. 11 activations)

I love these kind of threads! Doesn't hurt this one and the last were about 2 of my favorite characters and pieces, but still...

Good Call on getting a boost via Mara's fringiness!

I'm really excited for a new take on Luke, especially one that I think works on a lot of levels. I'm glad we just didn't get a Grand Master Lite.

I immediately started thinking of squads to play with him, here are a few of my favorites so far
Kyle becomes an Opportunist Double Twining GMA shooter, or slashes you in the face up close.

--Jedi Wrecking Crew--
48 Luke Skywalker, Galactic Hero
31 Kyle Katarn
29 Ganner Rhysode
27 Lobot
22 R2-D2 and C-3PO, Galactic Heroes
18 Jan Ors
13 Czerka Scientist
9 General Dodonna
3 Ugnaught Demolitionist

Preferred Reinforcements:
(Lobot) 16 R7 Astromech Droid x2
(Lobot) 3 Ugnaught Demolitionist

And then any excuse to play Vergere and Jacen
R2/3PO are a disruptive bodyguard for Master Luke and Vergere runs around being annoying until she gives Luke 4 extra FP and Motf 3, Yoda haunts Jacen and Cade heals when need be.
--Crabby Galactic Hero--
48 Luke Skywalker, Galactic Hero
33 Jacen Solo, Jedi Knight
30 Vergere
27 Lobot
22 R2-D2 and C-3PO, Galactic Heroes
20 Cade Skywalker, Padawan
20 Yoda, Force Spirit

Preferred Reinforcements:
(Lobot) 8 R7 Astromech Droid
(Lobot) 6 Mouse Droid X2
(Lobot) 6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2

(200pts. 12 activations)

And I like this a lot too! Jaina with GMA makes her a lot better and Han, Rebel General, and Luke Galactic Hero are going to be a great 1-2 punch.

This is a very nice use of Kyle. I'd forgotten about Jan Ors. One question, why is the Czerka in there?

Czerka gives Kyle and Jan Twin. I think vanilla Kyle will be very deadly like this.

I ask because the Droids offer Twin as well.

Here is my take on a Kyle/Luke squad:

--LukeGH, Kyle--
48 Luke Kywalker, Galactic Hero
31 Kyle Katarn
27 Mara Jade, Smuggler
22 R2-D2 and C-3PO, Galactic Heroes
20 Yoda, Force Spirit
18 Jan Ors
9 General Dodonna
7 Ugnaught Droid Destroyer
3 Mouse Droid
15 Ugnaught Demolitionist x5

(200pts. 14 activations)

I just want to make sure they get it. I love pairing up Mara Smuggler and R2/3PO it is such a fun combo.

Something I had actually been considering was this:

--Galactic Heroes--
48 Luke Skywalker, Galactic Hero
44 Chief of State Mon Mothma
31 Kyle Katarn
29 Ganner Rhysode
27 Lobot
18 Jan Ors
3 Ugnaught
Preferred Reinforcements:
(Mon Mothma) 30 SpecForce Technician x2

The SpecForce techs give out Jolt and Twin, Jan shoots someone, activates them, gets Opportunist on the second shot and Kyle cleans up. And Kyle and Jan just get boosted for each unique enemy they defeat via Mon Mothma.

so cool that universe kyle went from being one of the biggest let downs that lasted years to competitively capable piece overnight.

Agreed 100%, I love Kyle Katarn and I'm so happy we now have one (who threw the help of 2 very important friends of his) becomes a lot more like what we see in the game. And if you can squeeze in Anakin Solo he gets renewal and a few useful Force Powers!

And I love the other Kyles, they are monsters, but I'm glad we have one who can shoot and use a Lightsaber (now that he can actually do it capably BigGrin )

ThumpUp this. I think Mara is a better option than Ganner due to GMA negating much of his usefulness but the extra mobility is never a bad thing.

I love Mara, but Ganner is nice to set up a big LST3 from Luke, and some long range strikes for Kyle or to pull him out of danger since his only real defense will be his stealth.

I also like Ganner's Push 2 to help isolate folks for Luke's Ataru to kick in.

But I'm really loving this Luke so far, he is opening up so many different squad combos.

I like the disruptive aspect. I would like to throw in a czerka with Han, GH. Han uses cunning and czerka for activating for kyle to shoot at. Double accurate is also nice.

--No CEs plz--
50 Han Solo, Galactic Hero
48 Luke, GH
31 Kyle Katarn
27 Lobot
18 Jan Ors
9 General Dodonna
8 R7 Astromech Droid
3 Mouse Droid
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2

Preferred Reinforcements:

(Lobot) 3 Mouse Droid
(Lobot) 3 Rodian Brute

(200pts. 13 activations)

I also would like trying Jarael with Luke for some annoyance. GMA with her shock staff is fun. Plus the synergy from Luke.

i think these squads will most likely start

Luke
Ganner

I know that GMA might make Levitate slightly redundant when you're in a mosh pit but really this game is all about 1st strikes. The range (note the absence of range limits on lukes CE) you get with levitate + GMA is pretty sick. Not to mention Ganner will now get mobile levitates which up's his game, as well as ganner himself getting a better power output due to GMA.

Usually, my NR build start with Ganner. Movement breakers are that big.

I agree with this, but Ganner at +9 and Luke at +11 (although he can get higher under some conditions) makes me think that you need to throw in traps or targeting to help the attacks stick.

Ganner has Loner so he might be up at +13 which is workable. Luke can get his up to +19 with Ataru and Jedi Hunter. That might get tricky against certain squads (Seps with Poggle Swarms are going to rough,) but he does have a good ranged counter to them. And I'm hoping he will at least be able to trigger either Ataru or Jedi Hunter so he can hover around +15 attack.

It is hard to know having not played him yet, but I'm hoping his base attack will be fairly easy to overcome in play.

with levitate and throw 3, you should be able to set up AS mastery or JH with Luke pretty easily. The less pieces on the board, the stronger both get.

This luke is definitely a finisher and deep striking pieces really should fear him.
