In the Glossary it says that when using melee reach you count as adjacent for all purposes "when attacking". If you have just attacked someone using melee reach 2 and you attempt to move away does your opponent get to make an attack of opportunity?

I'm fairly certain the answer is yes but the phrasing "when attacking" is throwing me off. If you are attempting to move away you have already ceased attacking. I'm probably missing something.

No. A character using melee reach is only considered adjacent for the duration of the attack.

Woah. So Corran Horn JM with Luke GH can run up to 2 squares away from an enemy, triple attack and then move away without provoking an AOO? That's pretty sweet.......at least for Corran.

Melee reach confuses a lot of people, especially anyone whose played a d20 RPG, where reach always extends the characters threat zone (meaning can take AOO from as far away as their reach extends). But in SWM, melee reach only functions when attacking. Whats this does mean, is that special abilities that trigger off of a melee attack also are legal (Lightsaber riposte, Djem So) even though the enemy with the triggering abilities may not have reach and normally couldn't attack them, Melee reach allows them to do so since they count as adjacent to eachother.

Causes some weird interactions. I once attacked anakin from 3 squares away with the Dark Lady (melee Reach 3). He Djem so'ed her back (From 3 squares away, because they count as adjacent) and managed to kill her. This triggered her self destruct 40 (still from 3 squares away) which killed him, since they counted as adjacent, because all these interactions are reactions that trigger during the attack.

Yup, I was familiar with all of those but in light of the Luke Galactic Hero talk (and melee reach characters I had never put GMA on) I started thinking about interactions I hadn't experienced previously. I figured it would work the same way as the Djem So or Self Destruct SA's you mentioned until I hit the phrase "when attacking".
