Bodyguard with Damage Reduction versus a lightsaber Options

If a bodyguard has damage reduction, and is taking the damage from an adjacent ally who wa it by a lightsaber. Would the lightsaber ignore the bodyguards damage reduction, or is it just a "separate" damage that can be reduced by damage reduction?

The bodyguard would be able to use damage reduction as it is taking damage from the bodyguard ability, not from an attack by an adjacent character with a lightsaber.
