I've noticed that quite a few of the pieces in GH cost in the 40's when they feel more like 30 point pieces. These For example:
Vanguard
Smuggler
Imperial Agent

These three pieces are a mystery to me. They're such great pieces if you just cover up the cost on the card, but they seem completely ruined by the over priced cost. I have not played them, so maybe if I break them out I will understand the justification of pricing them so highly, but it feels, based on available commanders and squad options, that each of these are roughly 10 points too high (maybe thats an overestimation , but I don't htink by much).

Was wondering if any of the designers or people with a better head for mechanics can help clarify what we're getting for those 40+ points.

I think since they are non-uniques they needed to be a little more expensive. I'm in the minority it seems but I really like all of them especially the Smuggler. Paired with their counterpart I think most will be pretty fun. If they were less points they'd probably be more competitive but I'm still interested in trying out all of them.

They are non-uniques, so you can boost the crap out of them. The designers of V-Set 5 used The Old Republic (video game) theme for the sub-set. It has more expensive non-unique characters (Smuggler, Vanguard, Imperial Agent, etc) to represent the classes, and uniques that pair well with them (Aric, Corso, Kayilo).

The Vanguard with Aric gives them both squad firepower and squad cover most of the time, and the Vanguard is a non-unique trooper - so you really can boost him up.

Smuggler and Corso is a pretty sick duo (Double twin greater mobile). Now imagine Corso with 2 smugglers.

Kaliyo gets +10 damage when a full health Imp agent is with 6.

A nearby Juggernaut takes away Vette's savage, and can be a bodyguard tank for her too.

Alone - not worth the points, but once you start finding synergies (obvious and not so obvious) they get much better

I don't know about the Smuggler- you get a similar effect with an Echani Handmaiden squad and each EH, while more vulnerable, can swap, has Accurate as well as all of the other abilities, and can actually function once other pieces have been killed. Plus, you get more EHs for your buck.

The good thing about the Smuggler/Corso Riggs/Bastila combo though, is that you get a nasty combo that doesn't use commander effects at all. The Echani Handmaiden squad isn't as strong against Bastila (the top Imperial build doesn't use Pallaeon) or in your face disruptive.

I don't know-Pellaeon's not too hard to squeeze in there.

Urbanjedi's Regional winning squad is similar to this, I think - no Pallaeon. It's kind of the exception - I think most top tier Imperial squads will feature Ysalamari - but in this case he doesn't really fit, and the Bubble counteracts Atris's Force Meditation.
41 Atris
32 Thrawn (Mitth'raw'nuruodo)
66 Echani Handmaiden x3
21 General Veers
15 Jabba, Crime Lord
8 Mas Amedda
8 R7 Astromech Droid
3 Rodian Brute
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2
(200pts. 12 activations)

I've been playing against Bastila a lot lately, so anything with lots of internal synergies and no CEs looks good to me!
