With the first Regional and our own New Zealand LowerHuttACon tournament coming up in a couple of weeks, I wanted to talk about the meta a bit. What do you think is the best squad in each faction? I'm not sure it's possible to make a definitive list, as it's subjective, meta-dependent, etc, but I just wanted to start some meta discussion.

Here's my 2c:

Old Republic
I'm going for Weeks' Old Republic squad which uses a lot of the top tier Old Republic uniques - I think it's something of a Gatekeeper at the moment.
--S&V Old Republic--
37 Satele Shan
36 Atton "Jaq" Rand
33 Bastila Shan, Jedi Master
29 Carth Onasi, Old Republic Soldier
27 Lobot
18 Klatooinian Captain
14 Old Republic Senator
6 Mouse Droid x2
(200pts. 9 activations)

Sith
Tossing up between Revan and a flash new squad with Caedus Sith Lord, but I think we need a few events to see what the best Caedus squads are, so let's go with Tim's JAQ'ed up, which won Regionals and made the top 4 at GenCon.

--'JAQ'ed up!--
62 Darth Revan, Sith Lord
36 Atton "Jaq" Rand
36 Lord Kaan
27 Lobot
16 Grand Admiral Rulf Yage
14 Exar Kun, Dark Force Spirit
6 Mouse Droid x2
3 Rodian Brute
(200pts. 9 activations)

Republic
TINT won GenCon with this - although Hinkbert's FrostyCon winning variation with HK-47 instead of Rex is also notable.

--This Party's Over--
65 Mace Windu, Legacy of the Light Side
55 General Obi-Wan Kenobi
33 Captain Rex
27 Lobot
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
5 Rodian Diplomat
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2
(200pts. 8 activations)

Separatist
A lot of choices, but this Weeks squad won Minis Mania late last year is a good showcase of the different Sep tricks:
--Hero of Hyperbole--
42 General Grievous, Hero of Hypori
36 Darth Sidious
31 IG Lancer Droid
27 Lobot
10 San Hill
9 Battle Droid Officer
9 Poggle the Lesser
36 Geonosian Drone x18
(200pts. 25 activations)

Rebel
Totally open to debate, but this Lou Commando/IG-88 squad won Capital City Champs.
IG88A, IG88 Assassin, Luke RC, Leia RC, ERC, Crix, Dodonna, Juno, Obi Ghost, 2x ugo

Imperial
This Cad/Arica build just missed the top 8 at GenCon, and both finalists at the recent New Zealand Vassal Regional final used similar squads.
--Stealth N' Blue (and Pellaeon too!)--
54 Cad Bane
32 Thrawn (Mitth'raw'nuruodo)
31 Arica
27 Lobot
16 Admiral Gilad Pellaeon
12 Gha Nachkt
11 Grand Moff Tarkin
8 Mas Amedda
3 Rodian Brute
6 Mouse Droid x3
(200pts. 12 activations)

New Republic
I'd probably go for the old school Solo Charge (although it has a few bad matchups with Pallaeon and Mace around), or something with the new Luke Galactic Hero.

Mandalorian
No idea either, but I'm sure that Kelborn will feature - he's just dynamite for 28 points.

Yuuzhan Vong
No idea - they've had enough good new pieces lately that it's probably something we didn't see at last year's Regionals.

Deri made the Top 8 at Gencon with a Corran Horn squad losing to Trevor mainly due to Mace rolling crit/crit/dead against Corran on a riposte. I assume that has to at least be considered for best NR squad.

As far as Vong, Laura has a new squad she will be playing at the MI regional that in testing has been quite good, and IMO there are a couple of good builds with either of the Charging Assault pieces (Chazrach and Yun-Yamka Fanatic) if you think you can roll hot (or will see mostly shooters in your meta).

But the Top Vong squad is still probaly Jake Ks old Cad Bane and Nom Bombs combo squad that won 1 regional and did quite well at many others.

Here's my two cents after getting back into the game recently:

OR,
I'd agree with TheHutts chosen squad, also there are so many combinations with the cheap Jedi/Shooter in OR with Bastila it can always give even the best players a hard time.

Sith
Not as many options, but with the new Cadeus out I'm sure we'll see him with the Atton/Exar Spirit combo.

Republic
Mace will be competitive for quite sometime, in the hands of good players he is almost unstoppable!

Seps
Week's General Grievous squad is one of the best, I'm sure we'll see a few different variations of it.

Rebel
There are so many combinations of characters you can use, there are a lot of bad match ups for Rebels but I wouldn't count them out yet.

Imperial
Tim can play his Stealth n Blue perfectly and dominate even against tough matchups. I say we will see it again at least once this year.

NR
Corran Horn was MVP last year for the New Republic, and with the addition of the new Mara and Luke there are likely to be a bunch of new combinations.

YV
No idea really, except for good ol Nom Bombs.

Mandos
This is a really hard call, I'm not sure what will come from this faction with the regionals coming up soon.
