So.

When it comes to new players, I want to be able to say to them "oh, you're completely new?" or "you've played before but never seen the Vsets?" and then finish with "well, here's a list of the major movers and shakers for each faction. Its not an exhaustive list, but its what you'll likely see." I've done this before, when I was introducing some players to Vsets, and it was great for getting folk to see what they needed to. (Admittedly, I only made a list, but think of the possibilities?!)

Anyhoo - what I was wondering was, in the wake of Vset5 dropping (like its hot!), I was wanting to know if y'all thought it was a good idea to compose a series of posts (ten, to be exact) of each faction and listing the current major players (Vset and WotC) so, if you're expecting to play against so Vong (for example), you can rock up to the post and see in a matter of minutes the main stuff - but not everything! - so that you don't have to poor over cards for days.

That way, any new players can be directed to the posts... yes? No? Maybe? Do you wish to alter the idea? I pray you don't alter it any further.

It might help but I feel like the units section already accomplishes that. People are very good about describing who does what, how they work with commander X and how good they are for their points. I just picked up a new game, warmachine, and posts like the one you have described are invaluable, so im kinda on the edge of the fence. Though in that game everything for the most part is well balanced. I play trolls and out of probably 40-60 models there are 2 that are considered unplayable and another few that are not often taken out of the box, as opposed to fringe in SWM, where probably %50 of the figures are never played and your probably play the same %10 all the time. My mum always said you wind up wearing %20 of your cloths %80 percent of the time. I have a feeling minis are the same.

All the aside I just had teeth pulled and am on heavy pain meds, so none of what I said is probably coherent. Do what floats your boat.

A big +1 from me! I agree completely.

Threads/posts with that information have popped up from time to time and they've always been helpful. I think that it would be good to first describe the general tactics or strategies or gimmicks that a faction generally does really well, and perhaps list some of its most significant squad types. Then list the prime pieces of that faction with a brief summary of their value and purpose in a squad.

The thing with a list like this is that it has to be tweaked--and sometimes largely rewritten--with the release of each new set.
