Does the save of 6 only apply to the heal, or the damage as well?

Ouch. Thats a pretty nasty ability for a 15 point piece.

He's one of my favourites, but you have to look after him carefully - only 50 hp and not much defence. I like having the auto-damage against pieces like GOWK. He's a really good Lobot reinforcement option, and his offense gets nasty with Captain Tarpals in Republic.

I think it's great that he has a useful version now - he's a memorable movie character, and the previous one was very limited in its scope.

Yep, and using him to heal Mace for 60hp is pretty solid too. TheMiniTank used that squad (Mace, Zam, Tarpals, Evazan) to good effect at a tourney in NZ recently. It's a really strong squad.

I'll have you know, I used Mace/Tarpals/Evazan in an NZ tournament before Minitank Flapper

He made the top 3 in Charlotte too, with Leia and 100 point Luke. Pretty good chance of rolling a lot of avoid defeat saves. He fits well into lots of rock squads, but it's not stopping those little squishy Imperial squads from winning most things so far this year.

The old one still has some very good uses though. The old Dr. Evazan can actually be effective at taking out diplomats, since his Homicidal Surgery doesn't count as an attack. He also can deal auto damage to your own pieces, which can be very usefull in certain squads. For example, I use him quite a lot as a reserve piece in my Vong squads to grant Scarification to a Yuuzhan Vong Hunter on Quednak and many other pieces. He is also very helpful in Leia, Rebel Commando squads, since you can do the 10 auto damage to her to get her CE to activate. The save in the old Dr.Evazan's Homicidal only applies to the healing part, so it will always do 10 automatic damage. These uses for the old Dr.Evazan still make him a usefull piece in some top squads, but the new V set Dr.E is still a lot more usefull on the competitive scene since he can fit into every squad easily.

Agreed, but I'd generally splash out the extra 5 points and use Momaw Nadon - he can't do the healing thing, but he's a lot more versatile otherwise, especially if you have a movement breaker in your squad.
