Would it be possible/cost effective to buy a printer that prints the plastic minis we all used to love and add them to the vset cards? Im guessing around $2000 for a printer.

does anyone have the computer know how on how to use cad to design a mini and then 3D print it. I don't see it being cost effective, plus doing your own customs are a great part of this game

Short answer: no.

Basic 3D printing is very rough and you won't find the detail you're looking for. Higher quality printers are going to be very expensive and still rough looking. I'm apart of a Hackerspace where I'm from and we've tried it with Warhammer stuff to no avail.
