Righto. Challenge time.

There has been some comment recently about the days being numbered for SWM due to the dwindling player base. Yep, that is quite likely true, but do we actually know what the SWM world looks like? How many folk play this game?

What I'm proposing is that we attempt - as best we can - to do a stock take of some kind... can we work out how many we are? If you are the leader of a playgroup in a certain area, or part of a group - tell us how big you are! The more info the better! Ideally, it'd be easier if all the info could be either by State or Country (outside the US) - but that may be problematic is there are multiple groups in a State. But, we'll only work our way through these issues, once we start! (I'm gonna add names to my lot because I think it helps to see that these are people that play the game... but for obvious reasons you don't need to!)

I'll go first:

New Zealand!
I run the NZ group and am responsible for the overall Vset distribution so I have a fairly good idea of who's out there... but I'm constantly finding evidence of other players out there - so the search continues... but here is what I know:

Lower Hutt has 12 competitive players: kezzamachine (me!), Aaron (Sharron), Robin, Dave (Dr Daman), Mike, Alan, Graham (the Hutts), Ian, Danny, Dan, Henko and Glyn - and a further 9 non-competitive players: Liam, James, Zach, Hayden, Ethan, Malcolm, Lloyd, Paul and Andrew.

Hawera - well, they're all competitive there: Bevan, Bob (kfcs waiting for you), Dave (doug*platapus), Kurt, Baz and Kahu. 6 in all.

The northern regions are a mixture. Hamilton: Rich, Nick and Louw; Napier is Oli (Darth O), Auckland: Tim (MiniTankHT), Berto/Bob, Anthony and Nathan. 8 in total.

Wellington - PulsarMax - are: Alex, Stuart, Kav, Derreck, Tim and Duncan - 6 there.

I would say that we are 30 competitive players (the line between competitive and non is a bit blurry) with a further 10 casual players. I've started up a group in my High School and we have some possibilities in all of the three regions for new players so that number will change. Plus, I know that there are others out there! Somewhere...

Officially - NZ: 40 players, 30 competitive. Your move.

Well...in DE I play, and have 3 casual players with experience playing competitice-style games. I think LeftiesWillRule is still around, he lives in Dover.

As part of a splinter from the Janesville Wisconsin group located mor to the west in some of the smaller towns we've got about a dozen or so players but only probably 5 of those at most would consider playing competively.

Missouri - Playgroup: 2 (3 when a friend from Georgia visits). We don't play as often as I'd like, however. Casual only.

That said, there has to be a playerbase here. When I don't have the money to buy boosters, I see them everywhere. When I do have the money for boosters, they're gone.

Wait a minute, are you part of the Footville/Brodhead area group I have heard of?

The Janesville, WI group Bubba Fett referenced is the one run by Mark and Tim from the Star Wars Miniverse podcast. We play at Kryptonite Kollektibles on Friday nights. Currently we have right around a dozen players that I would consider active. Beyond that there are another 8 +/- more that are more occassional players. We've had some high school players drop due to conflicts with part time jobs. Others have gone to college. That seems to be the biggest impact on our numbers though its been relatively consistent over the past 2 years.

Currently my Greenfield crew has dwindled down to 2.5 . I call it that because my Brother In Law Sometimes plays a little with us and for the most part it is just my wife and i that play every so often. I do Manage to get on Vassal From time to time and play with a few guys that we used to play with in Anderson but that is about it.

Central Pa here...I ordered 16 Vset 5 sets for my players. However, 1 is officially getting out and trying to sell his stuff; most of the rest never show up to play anymore or even answer emails. There are 5 of us who, given friendly scheduling with work/extracurricular activities may see competitive play, and another 4 who prefer just to play scenarios and mass battles. Typically though, we get 2-4 for local gatherings. (Although now that my son is home from Liberty U we play a few times a week at home.

FL: I think DB53 and I are the only active members in FL. He's near Tampa and I am in Miami. He may know more than me on his community.

WNY present and accounted for...

Five (5) active competitive players, with one budding player recently brought into the fold. We also have had some interaction with the GTA group in Ontario. Rochester, NY used to be a very robust and large group be has since dissolved.

Still trying to generate interest to bring folks back and bring in new players.

Illinois, the opposite end of the state from the Chicago area. (6 hours)

Still a handful of players around, but all are into other games. Some have or are getting rid of their minis.
I recently heard that a couple guys get together once in while for casual games at a coffee shop about 30 minutes away, but I'm the only one keeping tabs on the current state of the game.

Not Mid-Illinois, more along the lines of NW Illinois, bordering Iowa. In the Moline area.

The only people I know of in Alabama are me and drakelee. (And we live in two completely different areas, so we're pretty much on our own.)
