I still very much consider myself an amateur, especially when it comes to the V-sets. I want to try and master the game first and then maybe entertain the v-sets down the road. I'm looking for general feedback about powerful squads. Are the "top" squads always winners (I assume they all have v-set cards incorporated)? Do the top squads win, 60 or 99 percent of the time? I know that nobody has actual statistical data, but I'm looking for general themes. If I rolled into a tournament with reeikan, rebel han, Princess Leia, Commando Luke and such and played them well, what chances would I have, if any, against today's squads that use v-cards? Is it even possible to win 1 game? Could someone win the tournament with that squad? Are the most recent tournament power squads superiorly powerful or are there a second and third tier of teams that on any given day could win? Could the squad that wins a national tournament lose to a team of Luke's Landspeeder, reeiken, a Han, a Luke or Emperor on Throne, unleashed Vader and some support?

You could absolutely win with WOTC Rebels. The top WOTC squads are still among the top tier. Thanks to the v-sets, every faction has won a regional in the last year or so. There is no one squad that dominates every other squad. Because there is so much variety, any decent squad us bound to counter at least squad in a tournament, so it's best to play what you feel most comfortable with. That's a lot easier now than in 2009 with no v-sets!

This list is a really good overview of what was good before v-sets: http://www.bloomilk.com/Squad/TopRated

Urbanjedi has made a point of taking WOTC only squads to Regionals sometimes, and has made the top 4 several times with them - I think he won with the Smug Commandos squads last year, and has used Skybuck this year. The problem with Wizards squads is that there were only really about five good squads at the end of production, and anything else wasn't as good.

Imperial Thrawn swap, with either Lord Vader or Cad Bane.
Seps with Lancers/IG-86s getting twin from a commander.

Meanwhile, the other four factions (Mandos, Sith, Vong, Old Republic) were substandard before v-sets. The other factions all had good movement, and tempo control or mass killers, but most of the poor factions had neither. The v-sets have mainly just provided a lot more strong options for competitive play.

I didn't really see the 150 points thing actually - I was more thinking about 200.

Non v-set Rebels are really strong at 150 - probably one of the strongest factions out there, even with 6 v-sets in the mix. Rebels do well at 150 with all the cheap tech they have available, and the fact that a lot of their counters aren't as strong at 150.
