I'm bored (out of work will do that) This morning i thought of this:

"In his belly, you will find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a thousand years" (C-3PO ROTJ). This implies that it somehow keeps you alive for the horrible process. If not, it would not be a new definition of pain and suffering, right? The republic needs to get some scientist down there to find out how it keeps people alive for so long.

Im thinking that Jabba had Threepio use some hyperbole to affect greater fear in victims. Was the process slow, probably. Was it 1,000 years, or anywhere close to that long? Debatable. Who, after all, was cataloging Sarlacc meals and poops?

Good point about Jabba and hyperbole. Interesting internships would exist.

Moreover, who's to say victims didnt die of dehydration or malnutrition in weeks even if their bodies did require 1,000 for digestion?

According to some book or website somewhere that I read, the Sarlacc does in fact keep the victims alive so that it can feed on them slowly over a long period of time (possibly even 1000 years) without the food rotting. But almost certainly it's some kind of suspended animation and consciousness is lost relatively quickly.

Nevertheless, if they are keeping them alive in someway, scientist have got to get down there. Might be a good part for one of the new Star Wars Movies. One of the main characters or someone gets deathly ill and Han and Chewy climbs down into a sarlacc pit to retract whatever chemical is keeping it's victims alive to use to help save Leia or luke or one of their kids. Han could say, "I thought these things smelled bad on the outside." Maybe he even runs into Boba Fett!
