Based on canon, I know humans are the most common species in the SW galaxy, but what species are next most common? Is there a list somewhere? And I mean species that you'd run into in a space port or something. I'm sure there's probably some sentient insect world with quadrillions of sentient insects who never leave their planet. They don't count.

Rodians and Duros are pretty common. You usually see some Twi'leks too, but they are probably not one of the most common.

There was an essential guide to Alien Species for Star Wars maybe you should check it out.

I'd hedge my bets on Rodians over Duros

Some other ones I came up with are Hutts, Twi'Leks, Nikto, Weequay and Nemodians.

If we are going by population, I might even say Chiss, they have a whole society that no one knows much about. Although, they aren't exactly common.

I'm talking about the most common species in the major spacefaring lanes. I guess if you assume the fiction is a random sampling you can just go with what you see there. There are something like 5 million sentient species in Star Wars, but many of those stick to their own planet or largely do (where just a few adventuresome souls get out and about). Duros would be another example of a species that is all scattered like Humans.

I'd go with Duros, to be honest. Though Twi'lek's are pretty common...
