Is there a sticky or anything that explains the vsets? How to get them and use them etc? I am new to all this and would like to have each set. Thank you for your help.

I don't know a brief introductory thread, and definitely not a sticky. But this thread will probably answer all your questions pretty quickly.

The PDFs of all of the Vsets are available here:

http://www.swmresources.com/

If you want the professionally printed versions, contact user 'engineer' with a Bloomail, and he will get you details. They've run out of some of the vsets, so some of them you would have to print out regardless.

The Vsets are cards designed and tested by a group of players. The are called "virtual sets" or Vsets because there are no physical pieces. You use the existing Wizards of the Coast pieces as proxies. (Or you create your own custom pieces. Or obtain customs from some of the great custom makers here on this site.) If you look at the database of sets here on this site, Rebel Storm was the very first WotC set, and Masters of the Force was the very last one. Destiny of the Force was the first Vset. Command of the Galaxy is the most recently released one. There have been 6 vsets released, but most of them also have an accompanying "mini set" of 10 or 12 additional pieces beyond the 60 piece normal set.

Wow thank you. I really hope they have more sets left. They look very exciting.

When I go to swmresoure site. I don't see epic 1 and 2. Is the part of the extra "mini" spin off sets? Are they on that site to print?

Thank you

The interface isn't as nice, but you can also check swinefeld's fileshare site:

Look under V-set stuff. I think I see the epics there.

A word of caution about the Vsets.

WotC made about 900 pieces. About 150 of those were 'competitive' pieces, meaning that they were strong enough to be used in the top-level tournaments. The Vsets are primarily designed with those competitive pieces in mind. So half or more of the Vset pieces are as strong as those competitive pieces. If you are a new player, you probably have a collection of 100 pieces or fewer, which meand you probably have 15 or so competitive pieces. If you get all of the Vsets, all of a sudden you have ~300 more competitive pieces, and many WotC pieces will look very weak in comparison. Mixing the weak and strong pieces doesn't always work well, so to start you may want to just take 1 or 2 Vset pieces per player, or else just jump all in and use all Vset pieces (and the few strong WotC pieces you have). I recommend the Vsets 100%. I just wanted to make sure you know what you're getting into. Seeing the power discrepancy between Vsets and the majority of the WotC pieces has upset more than one new player, but it's not that the Vset pieces that are overpowered... it's the 75% of WotC pieces that are underpowered.

Yes, this is important to recognize. Lots and lots of the original WotC pieces are still used all the time...but those were only about 15-30% of the WotC pieces...the rest of them were largely crap. The V-Sets have been designed to compare and compete with WotC's top 15-30%...they'll blow the junky WotC pieces out of the water (and the good WotC pieces will do that too).

When I taught my kids (9, 8, 6 yrs old) how to actually play the game (ie, according to the rules) last year, I taught them using just the WotC pieces, to show them the basics. Then we gradually added in V-Set pieces as we went along. Now my son uses any of the V-Set pieces without a problem.

Hello all:

I was directed this way from http://swmgamers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16817 by swinefeld.

I'm learning all the circumstances behind the V-sets. I'd like to know what sets I have and over time, I'd like to acquire more as it looks that this community has done a spectacular job keeping this game alive.

In the thread, to which I linked above, I gave a little bit of my background. Shorter story even shorter here: I donated at GenCon 2013 and Eric Larsen gifted a bunch of V-set cards to me.

So, I checked the following, both of which seem to be dead links:

Are these materials live at another location? I'd love to see the documents on the V-sets in particular to figure out exactly which I have and which I do not have so I might donate more to Eric Larsen for more V-sets.

Also, I stopped collecting a little past half way (money was tight) through WoC's run with the license. So, I'm in the market for cases of the sets I had not purchased in the past. Is this acquisition method advisable or should I buy/trade for individual minis?

- Vince

Hi again,

You can look at this page here on Bloomilk: http://www.bloomilk.com/Set
to figure out which sets you have.

You can find the V-Set PDFs to download, and final WotC rules documents here.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/94b3f86ypxwje0s/AABBLRFf7yt_R5l_tWqQOG1ca

This next one is to my SWM file share, which has a lot of different stuff. When I first started it, I was using it to archive content from other sites before they shut down, so the way it is organized tends go by where the stuff came from rather than what it is.

Thank you for all the links! I have now figured out what V-Sets I have, though I don't know the names of all of them.

What are the full titles of these sets:

GH
S&V
COTG
AAO

http://www.bloomilk.com/Set shows you all of the sets in order.

Masters of the Force is the last WOTC set, and it doesn't include the sets that will be released this month and which have just been spoiled.
