How else can one support the Vsets besides playtesting?

No matter what else people might suggest, playtesting truly is the #1 biggest place where the V-Sets need help. If you have a regular SWM play group (or if you'd like to get on Vassal and test), then by all means, have at it! That'll always be #1, I think. Now for your specific question.... :)
Another option that comes to mind is in the "What do you want to see" threads. These threads are SO useful to the designers. I think that, whenever possible, it would be great to have people post suggestions on how they'd like to see a piece work. That is, if you want to see a new Boba Fett, then offer some kind of direction (excellent shooter, solid commander, toddler-age, geriatric age, post-Sarlaac period, etc), or even better, post an actual statblock with creative and flavorful abilities. I know that some people in the community have put a lot of thought into their customs, so I'd encourage them to list these in the thread. Obviously, these recommendations might or might not be used at all, but at least it gives the designers something to work with. It's nice to be able to hit the ground running. I know that in V-Set 8 right now, we've got quite a number of pieces on the setlist that were straight from the "What do you want" threads...but we don't have a specific direction in mind yet. Now, it's very early in the process, so it's nothing to worry about. However, I think I can speak for all designers when I say that when we make a "high-want piece," we really want it to meet the community's expectations. In V-Set 5 we worked really hard on Luke GH for that reason...and it seems like we were successful, because the feedback on that piece was very positive. In some cases people have very divergent preferences for a given piece, but ideally, we'd like all the biggest fan-favorites to be spot-on with the community's hopes and expectations.
tl;dr: When posting in the "What do you want to see" threads, offer suggestions/directions and even suggested stat-blocks. That would be very helpful.

if you have every single WOTC piece. A digital camera that is at least 8MP, and PhotoShop and know what a mask is. Let me know that is one way to get involved.
Thereisnotry makes a great point with the "what do you want to see threads ". I created a thread on SWM gamers on what a future Boba Fett might feel like. It has an amazing 11 post. I hope you can feel the sarcasm there. I expected more. There are quality responses and not a lot of gibberish, so that is good, but with it being Fett, I figured there would be more interest.

Thanks for the pointer to it. I didn't know about it. SWMGamers won't keep me logged in, and I don't see much over there, so I don't log in often. (I think the most interesting talk over there is probably hidden in designer forums.) I'll take a look.

He seems like a pretty cool piece, the way you describe him. The difficulty with Fringe shooters is that, because of Whorm Loathsome, you really have 2 choices: -Twin Attack -No Twin Attack, plus either a CE or Single Shot Blaster Interesting stuff. I'd be interested to see what other people have to say too.

I know we are sidestepping the OP.
To me a new boba fett should be played as a mercenary/bounty hunter. He should not be subject to CE. So that you can boost his stats for him to be a solo machine. He could fit into any squads and not be op. You could make him power scalable. So he would cost 46 to start. You can add bounty hunter for 10 points, then another 10 points for assassin and so on. You customize boba after you see your opponent’s squads. Very much the same way reinforcements work but in reverse; you would take pieces away from you squad. You get the idea. Really hard to design but it could be another finesse piece.
Cheers

Interesting stuff. I'd be interested to see what other people have to say too. Thanks. I'm interested to see how it turns out. I do think a new Boba should be a #1 offensive threat on his squad, and should be relatively high-cost. A 30 or 40pt Boba might be easier to fit in, but Boba should be a big name. Boba BH's time is gone, but he'll always have a spot of his own with the Big D as long as a new Boba doesn't have it. If the cost is quite a bit higher than Boba Merc and doesn't have Intuition/Cunning, it will automatically be a very different feel than him, too. So that way, he doesn't push out the WotC versions totally.

also if you are a grammar nazi, you can be part of the QC team that checks all the cards. Also being a point man gets you somewhat involved as well.
