I've been thinking of doing some repaints of some of my miniatures (I have never done something like this before) and wondered if there was anyway to remove the paint already on the miniatures before I repaint them? I'm afraid if I try to repaint over them it will just look blobby and not proper.

Any suggestions or tricks are very much appreciated!

I repaint over minis all the time and I never have a problem, just make sure you use thin layers and some water to help keep it from looking blobby. And if it looks too blobby you can usually run it under water before it dries to get the paint off.

I have seen it done and its not petty.

Just paint over it, if it's loss of detail that worries you. Water down your paint and practise highlighting detailed and shaded areas on unwanted minis.
