60% of the time, when I go to use Vassal on a computer something goes wrong. I have used it on 6 different computers on several occasions, and something has gone wrong on each of them. Yesterday, when I logged on, the "main room" area didn't show up so, and I couldn't create a room. Any ideas of why this is?
Any advice is appreciated,
GBC

Generally, when you can't create a room in the main room, it is a problem with vassal connecting to the internet. And, more times than not, I can only start vassal one time, and when I close it, it simply won't start again, no matter how many times I click on it, so I have to restart the CPU. Then, it will work one more time . It's bearable, for the best program on the webs

After you close out of Vassal make sure to check your task manager to ensure that Vassal.exe is not running. Sometimes it gets hung up. Java has a way of doing that. I think their may be something going on with the Vassal server right now because I am also having an issue with connection.

I have an idea on the cause of your connection problem... As some guys knows, I'm French, and I never have any problem with VASSAL, except 1 time when I did disconnected. So, when I connect to VASSAL, at the France time, in the Canada/USA, it is the night, so the server isn't overloaded. If many users are North American, maybe VASSAL's servers are overloaded when you are connected on it...
I'm not IT specialist, but maybe it's a reason of your problems, simply... In these case, you can't make something :/

You can still use P2P (Peer to Peer). If you know somebody you want to play with you can right click the vassal icon by all the connection stuff and change it to P2P. Then when you click the P2P button Vassal goes through the leg work for you and gives you your IP and connection info. You share this info with a friend via text/email/phonecall/smoke signal/Bloomail and they simply enter it into the connection window after clicking the connect button.
You can still play, but the lobby, Vassal server, seems to be down at the moment.

This is odd, because I never have a problem loading/starting Vassal, even if I close-and-open it multiple times over the course of an evening. Sometimes we get disconnected, but that's always been the case. It looks like it's not specifically the SWM Vassal mod that's the problem, so it must be some settings or something on your computer itself.
I'm sorry I can't help much. I assume you've tried uninstalling Vassal and then doing a fresh install? Same thing for java? I know that both Vassal and Java tend to have kinda frequent updates, so maybe the problem is that you haven't updated recently.

Yeah, we've tried that. Despite your great tutorial videos, whenever I re-install Vassal, it tends to go wrong.
In P2P, can you play with 4 people? I know that's the max.

In P2P, can you play with 4 people? I know that's the max. Yes, you can currently play with a max of 4 people. In the next mod update I could increase the number of players above 4, but I can't imagine that being used very often at all. Have you encountered a situation playing SWM when you've wanted more than 4 players to be on at once? If you're wanting to use the mod for the SWRPG, then I've got a better option for you. I developed a SWRPG Vassal mod a while ago, specifically for playing the Star Wars Saga Edition on Vassal. All of the characters have spots where you can include their relevant info (init score, condition track, etc). It also increased the number of players up to 8 or something (plus a separate GM). It's far more user-friendly for RPG purposes, and if you can use the SWM mod effectively then the RPG mod will be a cinch. It also makes adventure design easier for the GM in a number of ways, including map/tile layout. I and a bunch of others used it for a while and it seemed to work really well. So if you're looking for RPG-on-Vassal options, I'd definitely go that route, rather than using the regular SWM skirmish mod.

That sounds good, is it on the regular vassal sight?

I'd post that link here, but I decided to start a separate thread for it so that it's easier for people to find in the future. Star Wars Saga RPG on VassalThis post will actually redirect you to the original post on SWMGamers, where I originally gave all the necessary instructions for using it. At some point I may add all the maps that have come since I made this mod, but I've got other projects in the works right now, so it could be a while.
