You forgot to add Ricky H, who is inducted for winning the GenCon championship.

Yes, sorry - congrats Ricky.

He was the one already known, the others were just announced last night.

He is certainly a part of this class too! (Edited above)

Out of sheer curiosity, what happens when you make the HoF? Do you get a plaque? Trophy? Anything at all? I guess what I'm asking is do you receive anything. I've always been unclear about this.

There used to be a T-shirt, but I don't think they've done that in a couple of years.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I've always thought the HoF should be very elite, made up mostly of the men/women who have won a World Championship. Sure there can be a Dan Marino in there, someone who has dominated Regionals, and has tons of victories at that level but has never been able to capture the World Championship. For me though, I feel like it should mostly be made up of World Champions. Before long, everyone who still plays Minis will be a Hall of Famer.

It would be nice to see those talented enough to make the HoF receive some sort of prize that I'm sure the Community could come up with, whether it's an Eric Larson trophy, a SWM card of themselves complete with a custom figure depicting them and all of their glory. I know we have some extremely talented customizers out there. Or just a shirt like the olden days.

I never got a shirt. :(

That aside - we do have many different considerations for each individual beyond winning tournments. Everyone who made it in this year has made significant contributions to the game in a variety of ways. They deserve recognition for it.

(PS - would I be the Dan Marino of Minis?)

There is a conversation to be had (although maybe not in this thread) about what the Hall of Fame should be for. I think most people (certainly most of the current Hall) seem to think it's about recognizing extraordinary contributions to the game, not just great players/winners. I'm deeply honored that they chose to include me in that company this year.

What you say is true, too--there may come a time when being in the Hall of Fame ceases to have a lot of meaning because almost everyone who still plays the game is already in it. Maybe some would argue we're already there, although of course I'd like to think that's not true. Certainly it means a lot to me. Like I said, it's a huge honor, to be included in the group of so many amazing players, organizers, designers, or all of the above. It's a reminder of how many dedicated, talented people are still involved in this game. But being in the Hall of Fame is also a responsibility that I feel I have to keep living up to for as long as the game lasts.

As for "getting something," a T-shirt would be fine, but the last thing we really need around the apartment is a couple more trophies LOL.

At the end of it, its a list of people who for one reason or another should be recognized by people who are interested enough in the game to care.

Whether its as a player, something they did, organized and contributed to the community to keep the game going for as long as it has.

I don't think anyone in the HoF wants anything else because, if they are like me, they enjoyed all they did for the love of the game and then they get names recognized as a bonus.

The one thing that every person on the HoF has in common is that they loved the game at one point or another to the extent that they put effort into that went above and beyond just casual playing.

They organized, created, practiced, played, analyzed, taught and gave to the community all that has been and much of what we have today.

Its certainly not a best player list, but win enough or win Gen Con and its recognized.

+1 to everything Laura has written here, especially the parts I've highlighted.

And this. Love of the game has always been the motivator for me to put all the time and whatever skills I have to offer into keeping it alive. Being 'officially' recognized as a significant contributor was never my goal, but now that I have been, I feel a duty to work even harder (if that's possible ;)

Thank you, everyone. It is indeed an honor. BlooMilk

I'll try not to ramble but to be honest my induction did come as a surprise when Jim rang me before SHNN went on the airwaves.

If there's one thing I've learned since joining this community, its that this is truly a community not just a bunch of players banded together. I have forged life long relationships as a result of this game and that is what makes me all the richer in the long run.

Being inducted to the HoF is truly an honor and also a bestowed obligation to maintain the core values of our game, as it will never truly fade away so long as we continue to play. Lastly, I'd like to congratulate my fellow inductees, as each of you are most deserving and I am proud to enter along side of you all!

A toast to the class of 14. BlooMilk

Actually, not even that. There is an issue as to who has access to make those changes on 'Gamers and how to do it. I've always been conflicted about drawing attention to that, because if I do, am I seen as someone thumping his own chest? If I don't am I seen as someone who thought so little of the honor bestowed on me that I didn't care enough to acknowledge what the community did for me? I still struggle with that so let me just say thank you again to all of you who honored me this way. A t shirt like those early inductees have would be nice but really the honor I've been given already is enough. Besides, the Atlanta guys made me an honorary member and gave me one of their legendary Black Polos, which I proudly wear to competitive events. My wife says I have enough Star Wars clothing.

Hey I guess I will answer the Hall of Fame question. It after all was my idea and I just kind of ran with it.

Anyways, I dont know how long everyone on here has been around but I will just assume you don;t know for story sake. Back in the day when people still were on Wizos posting and most of talking was done there we were slowly learning that Wizos just did not care for us because our game did not have the word dragon in it it or Magic. A lot of people were working hard to make the game better for no other reason than to make the game better because there wouldbe no recognition. This was before Sarah was the brand manager even.

Well as gamers got more popular and I was at the time the content manager which meant I was involved in helpng of making the competitive game better and lining up what would be judges for the game. I decided it was time that some of the people that were killing themselves for basically nothing got recognized.

Guys like Nickname, Moses and the such. Another important aspect though was the game play. I had a small circle of friends (still think I do today also) back then like Billiv, Fingersandtheeth, Boris that I was talking to. They agreed we needed to make this about game play also. That is why the champ is auto include.

I understand thinking that eventually everyone will get in... but chances of that are slim. It has taken what 6 years to get here? I dont even remember what year we started the HoF. I will tell you this though that it worked because once Sarah was in as brand manager she totally loved it.

Sarah was huge for us. She listened to us when asked for regionals. Some of you may remember the first set of regionals we actaully got WOTC to give us gencon badges for the winners. She loved everything we did. She proved it several times. Do any of you remember when we had her via lia chat on gamers. If you remember we kind of blew the server once but everything worked itself out. When Don had his house fire and I contacted her she actually went to WOTC employee store and bought him minis out of her personal finances. She was great! It was a great day when we able to give Don back his minis. They did not mean much on the grand scale but it was what we could do as a community.

I guess in the end that what was the HoF was about. We had the greatest community of gamers ever out there. They are still there most have gone different ways some evn play xWing now. But we did have the best. I have been away for two years because a lot of personal things happening in my life but I still consider this community and my friends the best that any person could ever have.

I hope we made things better than worse. I remember when we started SHNN show. Man people thought we were crazy but after a while I think members of the community felt like they knew us better and probably felt better knowing that we some of the biggest idiots out there.

Anyways maybe that gives you some background as to why the HoF got started!!

Past HOF members put you on their shoulders and parade you during the dinner at Hooters during GenCon....

ok maybe that doesn't happen, but it should. At very least someone might buy you a beer at GenCon
