In the rolling mini of the day thread, TheHutts brought up this squad by TimmerB:
--Eternal Bodyguards (aka the most frustrating squad ever!)--
54 Cad Bane
36 Felucian Shaman x2
15 Padmé Amidala
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
16 R7 Astromech Droid x2
70 Felucian x10
(200pts. 17 activations)
Wow - looks as annoying as anything ever. And powerful! Maybe Felucians are overpowered and need an errata... or actually maybe they
don't need an errata. Because Shaman Aura (a Force Power on the Felucian Shaman) is written 'backward':
"Shaman Aura" wrote:Force 1, replaces turn; Until the start of this character's next turn, this character gains the following Force ability: Felucian followers within 6 squares cannot have their Hit Points reduced below 10; save 6. Allied Felucians remove 10 damage when they activate within 6 squares of this character.
From a quick glance, it appears that if a Felucian follower makes a successful save 6 when they take damage, then they cannot have their hit points reduced below 10. I could be wrong, but I think that is how it has been played. (If that is not how it has been played the rest of what I say is kind of pointless.)
However, notice that the ability says
"; save 6". That means that it is a save to avoid the effect. The semicolon with a save is what you see on Grenades, Missiles, etc., where the character has to make the save to avoid the effect. Note that it is not just enemies who have to make the save to resist the effect. Grenades and Missiles affect allies, too.
It's similar with Dominate. If you use Dominate on an ally, you
want your ally to be subject to the effect. In order to be dominated, you have to
fail the save or else the effect is avoided. Dominate is written as "; save 11". For saves where something beneficial happens when you make the save - such as Evade, Parry, etc. - the wording is
"with a save of 11" instead using a semicolon.
That means that even though the Shaman Aura effect is something the Felucians
want to have happen, if they make the save that should avoid the effect. In other words, Shaman Aura should only save Felucians 25% of the time instead of 75% of the time.
SHNN is coming up in less than an hour. Just thought I'd throw something at least a bit controversial out there that might be worth talking about. At some point they always mention what's going on in the discussion boards. Then again, minutiae of rules phrasing might not make for an interesting podcast.
(And if everybody already read it that way in the first place I guess I was the only one confused by it.)
