Hello everybody, I think that NR is getting too strong, and I can't stand it. If you can't

stand were NR is going or just flat out hate them sign/post here. I would like it if you

make sure you state your opinion as if Grand Master: Luke Skywalker DIDN'T

exist.

With as many Disruptive pieces as the Rebels have, they should be able to keep most CEs in check.

Luke is by far not the reason to not like NR. Other figures are what put NR over the top. Look no further than Mara.

Rebels have been at the top of the heap for quite some time. Do you dislike the Rebel faction, too? Is the NR getting stronger? Sure. But perhaps we should all reserve judgement until after the set is released and we get to test the new figures.

Oops, oh sorry... I'm looking for the thread "If you love NR, sign up here" I must be lost...

Face it bub, the greatest era ever is getting what it needs. Nothing you can do about it, I love it... It needs to compete with Rebels, Imperials and Republic. Just wait til you see Anakin and Kyle!

Well, it makes sense that the NR be one of the strongest factions. The Rebels are strong, but eventually they become the NR and get even stronger. More experienced characters make for stronger characters...

Cursing RANT WARNING:Cursing

It's not that I don't like the New Republic, but I only collect the Dark Side figures. After this set... I don't know anymore, I just might have to start collecting the light side to stay competitive in my play group (everyone else plays light side squads fairly consistently).

My true hatred is in the form of Dodonna. ThumbDown Who for 9 points is an auto-in for any New Republic or Rebel Squad, and then you give both those factions Evade and Mobile Attack, and it starts to get gross. To add to all that, these two factions are the only ones that have disruptive on a normally "usable" figure (Nym is not very usable for his 48 cost, unless you are running a Merc squad).

Gowk isn't even really a problem for most dark side factions as they have access to alot of Force Immunity and direct damage abilities, which makes me think that most of the users that complain about GOWK on all these boards typically play light side...

I mean the Sith are getting some new figures, but nothing that really adds to the faction because you're just replacing the other 44-88 figure that you were using before. What the Sith faction needs is Evade. Shooters eat 88 point Revans off the board way to fast to be able to justify his points, but the same goes for every other figure in the Sith.

The Seperatists need Mobile Attack for their droid squads, so that they're not sitting ducks all the blasted time. And all they get (this set) is a battle droid with flight. I really hope they know something that we don't. However, the force users are in the same boat as the Sith. They need Evade to compete against all of the Greater Mobile shooters out there. Dooku Serrano can handle the Melee Attackers (up to GMLS) but he can't handle Mara Jade, Jedi (due to the inexplicable reason that a Lightsaber attack is not a Melee Attack; which should be changed IMO).

The Vong need a way to get across maps like the Death Star with all the massive damage output shooters out there (I'm looking at you -- quad attacking 40 damage TBSVs! Angry ). I'd like to say Evade again, but I think all they need is Charging Fire...

Mandos are in a good position, but need more direct damage, or an ability to get past all the evade, armor, and soresu out there...

I will admit though, the Imperials are in the best position out of all the dark side squads, as they have access to some of the best SAs & CEs out there (Yslarmi, Master Tactician, swap, direct damage, force battery, and Booming Voice). But are definitely challenged by pieces like GMLS, unless they are using BobaBH...

Whew.... felt good to get that off my chest... Anyways, I think for this set it just might be good to adopt the New Republic into my repertoire to stay competitive for the high profile tourneys this Summer.

Man, I'll tell ya, Empire with Old Thrawn kicks any Force based squad square in the face. Run up Sidious, or a good Vader, or an unleashed apprentice, stick your thrawn behind you and start to unleash on that Luke. It's easy to say New Rep is the strongest because they are the coolest looking. Personally I'd take a Vong army against New Rep any day of the WEEK, especially after this Priest and the mouse droids got released.

Every squad has its strengths. Personally I think Republic is the cheapest by far because everyone uses that stupid General Kenobi with all the Plus fours and the stuffs and the goings on.

Confused How are you killing him when he is Twin Djem-So Mastering every attack you have on him? And then he also has Lightsaber Defense to negate the damage you're doing to him as well...

Or if you're using Thrawn's bubble, he gains force immunity (so no direct damage) and he still has Djem-So Mastery... Scared

I'm just saying that while the Empire has a chance against him, it would not be an easy kill at all...

To quote myself...

"I know that there is some discussion about the NR being the best and it's making some people mad, but I fail to understand how a faction of 30 minis (that makes the most out of those 30) is any better than the Republic faction that has 111 figures. This game is all about different strokes for different folks and it always comes down to who plays what they field better, not by who has the most expensive (points and $ wise) minis on the board."

The different strokes for different folks part of my statement fits perfectly with many of the rants in this topic. Each faction has it's own play style, Rebels and NR are quite different because NR relies mostly on Jedi and Rebels don't have as many and usually rely on shooters.

Mandos rely on stealth and CEs to beef them up.

Vong use stealth and bombs to be competitive (although they are getting some good squads that are not bomb based)

Imps are probably the most balanced, and probably the strongest with all the Vader's, Thrawn and Palps being mainstays in most squads. They also have super stealth and some great CEs.

Sith is all about power, their squads usually have a big beat center that is all about crushing and little subtle action.

OR is getting better with the new set, but they are probably the least competitive.

Republic is obviously melee/Force centered, now mostly GOWK centered, and has a huge amount of Jedi (and quite possibly the two best minis around in GOWK and R2 Astromech).

Anyway, you have to find your play style and then pick a faction that fits. Playing only one type of faction may make you a little less competitive when new sets come out as not all factions get boosts with each set.

It all comes down to both players get to field 100, 150 or 200 points and it's not like 200 NR points are greater than 200 Mando/Sith/Republic/OR points. If you want to be competitive and win tournaments then you have to use the best minis availible and play them well.

The Republic is still the faction to beat.Bored Every new set changes the power of the factions.I think it makes the game more fun.Woot If NR is to strong now, another set will come along and level the playing field.LOL

Exactly. You can't expect old pieces to stay strong when this is an evolving game. You did hit the nail on the head about new stuff and shifting power balance being what makes this game fun. I probably would have quit by now if they were still producing single attacking Jedi or lots of minis without new SAs.

Younglings Razz

Kidding aside, I agree with Artemis and DarthJak, but I do like it when they introduce CEs and SAs that breath some new life into some of the older pieces, and I hope they continue to do that ThumpUp
