This doesn't seem to ever have been addressed by WOTC although it was possible with Cade Padawan and Yoda FG.
Can I use essence of Life to save a Force Ghost from being defeated when the force ghost is defeated by an enemy using a force point?

This applies only to the situation where an enemy spends a force point to defeat the spirit character directly.
The spirit character will NOT then have 10 Hit Points, because it has no rating to begin with, and a character's hit point cannot be increased above it's starting amount.
