Found this:

I spend way too much time looking at miniatures for a guy that doesn't really need any. But this seems like the way to go for custom miniatures. Pricey for one mini, but there are lots of options, and I mean lots of options available for each character.

and expensive .... $25.00 per mini? Only for the hardcore and people with $$ to burn I hate to say this, and they're very generic too. Too rich for my blood but I'd love to see the end piece of some's who braver than me.

I think this has been brought up elsewhen around Bloomilk -
that said, the concept is awesome,
"order a mini - if you can think it, you can make it" - awesome concept.
If only GW and forgeworld embraced that approach, rather than "build a price wall, sue everyone because we and Mattel own shaped plastic" approach, which saw them both go to where they are now.

but, I digress;
many local scintilated lazer, lazer ablation resin RP-machines, CNC etc...
they're much cheaper, and have better per-unit or volume margins than with that particular option.
~1.18-4USD per unit, as opposed to the "25USD basic and up" price point barrier?
Very soon, some UAE sand mould in-home injector mold 3D printers will hit the market, reducing print time substantially (they look really exciting, because of how the sand is arranged, to make continuous curved surfaces in half the time of some other options):
so, hopefully that will see complex shapes and effects in the 34mm miniature world diversify.

The product that prints is usually by a 3rd party (shapeways) or the Form +1 anyway,
so why pay a third party to go to another third party, when there's Shapeways direct, or 3DHubs.com etc? BigGrin
more minis for the buck, and, if you go local, you support local 3D printer/rapid manufacturers, a real win-win.

it's a blast just to make the minis, you can make and save them, without buying

it's only $14 for the cheapest mini. $25 is for metal. If it saves the time of molding, working with greenstuff and cutting to make one miniature it may be worth it. If you are getting exactly what that is.

I gave in an bought a couple. I got the strong plastic because they were cheaper, and all the reviews I read said that the fine detail ones were super fragile/brittle. They can packed very, very, very safely.

There's only 2 miniatures in this box

1st thoughts: the figures are rough, I think you can see it in the pictures here. They seem sturdy, they have a bit if give, it feels easier to break than the Wizards minis for sure. You do lose some detail on the strong plastic version. (I'll have to see if I can get the pictures of the original creations) The 1st guy should have some detail on his jacket shoulders. And it's hard to tell that the second guy is a robot in just a coat. It's impossible to tell that the robot has a monocle. I'll have to see how well paint sticks to these guys before I give my final verdict.

indeed,
thanks for that end-to-end, store-to-door review,
and it's good to hear that they have great customer service;

that said, the figures look like they were printed on the Form+1 or similar,
as opposed to the lazer cut or the hi-res stuff from elsewhere.

The burned anakin figure from Shapeway, in WFUDii, it was comparable to WotC quality.
These... ah, but it is early days - and they're better definition than the k8200 is at the moment.

slapped some Testors enamel on them:
HEROFORGE (3)

HEROFORGE (1)

HEROFORGE (2)

the paint helps bring out some of the detail, but not the roughness. The material does absorb some of the paint, so you have to watch for bleeding. I didn't paint the coat on the robot so you can see where some of the blue got soaked in.

The detail on the more expensive high resolution prints is so much better than this. I backed this kickstarter and have ordered 4 of my 6 minis so far. While the price is expensive the difference in detail between the two is night and day. In my opinion if you are going to drop money on a custom printed mini, you might as well pay a little more for the detail.

Good to know. But all the reviews I read said that they are very fragile/brittle. We put our minis through too much for me to risk spending that much.

Totally understandable and I've been too busy designing new terrain that I haven't had time to do any painting or even use the figures yet so I don't have any feedback to provide regarding that.
