My gut reaction is "no," since Rend typically only triggers on a character's normal double attack. But I could see it being ruled the other way.
ETA: Going through the threads, it appears that it was PTed as if they worked together, and no one specifically asked the question. I could see it either way. My thinking is that since Assault replaces attacks, you're giving up your normal attacks, so any bonus that would attach on the double would be gone. But I could be wrong.

A very strict reading of the FAQ would say no.
However, the glossary is a bit more open. Lightsaber Assault grants 2 attacks. So, if both of those (non-immediate attacks) hit, then yes, Rend would trigger.
So, yes, it would trigger.

I like the glossary for Rend. It makes sense and really isn't even ambiguous. Then the FAQ that throws in a monkey wrench that just confuses everything.

The FAQ is sort of a victom of the time it was written. It basically boils down to Rend only triggers on Attack 1 and Attack 2, ignoring anything in between.
