The Vset Boss' commander effect states: At the end of this character's turn, 1 Republic Commando ally within 6 squares may make an immediate attack or use a special ability that replaces attacks.
Republic Commando Training Sergeant on his Delta Shields ability says: (Each ally whose name contains Republic Commando gains Shields 2)
So what I am asking is since the new pieces do not say whose name contains, can they boost the Vanilla Senate Commandos who are indeed Republic Commandos?

I think the first part is poorly worded, and should mean "ally whose name contains Republic Commando." If not, that was a serious oversight. I don't think it means, "One commando who is of the Republic faction." If does turn out to mean as much, I think Boss will make an awesome addition to the Senate Commando squads.
But the Senate Commandoes definitely wouldn't gain Shield because their names do not contain "Republic Commando."

Exactly my point, but that's not what it says. Old Boss specifies that it must be in the name, the newer pieces are ambiguous with their wording, leading me to think it would apply to commandos of the Republic faction itself.

I definitely see what you're saying with the wording, but I think if it were to apply to more than just the Republic Commandos, it would be, "One commando ally etc etc."
We'll see though! Maybe someone who is a little more familiar with it will chime in.

"Republic Commando" would mean name contains.
"Republic commando" would mean any commando in the Republic faction.
Pretty sure about that. That's how it works with Rebel Trooper vs Rebel trooper.

I know how you feel, and I'm meandering from rules topics...but Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them get a little something to help make them a more interesting option to play. Whatever that might be would need to be carefully thought out and scoped separately from the RCs.
