So a recent squad post got me thinking.
How exactly does mount interact with characters riding it for consideration of adjacency?
I always thought you had to count one square from the mounted character so therefore they couldn't ever be adjacent and were in a sort of "limbo" and protected by their mount. But can mounted characters use things like Jedi reflexes, mines, self destruct and such, and if so can enemy characters attacking the mount come adjacent and then attack people riding on the mount?

This character can transport 1 Small or Medium ally who ends their move adjacent to it. Remove that ally from the battle grid; they move simultaneously with this character, have cover, and are considered adjacent to it. They can make attacks, counting distance from this character. A transported ally can return to the battle grid immediately before your first activation of the round. If this character is defeated, the transported ally is also defeated; save 6.

Glossary Text

This special ability is similar to Troop Cart, with the exception that it can only transport 1 Small or Medium ally.

You don't have to get adjacent to attack someone on a mount. The Mount and the Rider are considered exactly the same distance, so if the mount is a legal target, the rider probably is, too.

Note that the adjacency thing doesn't work for Desert Skiff because it adds one to the distance when counting how far away things are, so riders of Desert Skiff are not adjacent to the things next to Desert Skiff.

I have been operating under the impression that since mout provides cover you can only target the riders with accurate?

The rider and mount are the same distance, so unless there's another enemy that is closer, you can choose either the rider or the mount as the target. To be a legal target you have to either have no cover or be the closest enemy. They're tied for the closest enemy, so the fact that one has cover and one doesn't have cover does not matter. (Again, unless some third enemy is closer than either of them.)

How does diplomat work in relation to mount? If you put a diplomat on a mount, does the mount, and in the case of the NR M99, the second rider basically become untouchable baring special abilities that bypass diplomat?

EDIT: After thinking about this, I think the diplomat has no use on a mount. Since it is equal distance to the mount itself, there is always an available target so the dipomat's ability never comes into play. Am I right in this thinking? I've never had a strong grasp of how diplomat works...

I don't believe so, as the characters that mount are counted as adjacent to the Enforcer, not AS the Enforcer. I could be wrong though. However the diplomat still cannot be targeted in this scenario. However, do note that the diplomat would still have to save against direct damage, for example, Missiles, grenades, and/or splash.

I was thinking that if you based the NR N99 with a diplomat on it, there would be other targets to hit for the enemy since the N99 and the other mounted piece would be considered adjacent as well, so the diplomat doesn't really help you by locking up a based enemy from attacking.

Correct, if you base the Enforcer you are, in essence, adjacent to all 3 pieces. The diplomat can't be targeted though because the attacker has LOS to another character without diplomat. The other characters protect the Diplomat not vice versa.
