If a shrouded character is 3 squares away, can I target the stormtrooper 6 squares away with my lightning, grenades, etc?

If I had to guess I would say it depends on if they're both in cover or not. If they're both not in cover then you should have the ability to choose the target. If they're both in cover then targeting rules apply and you can't target the stormy. I'm interested to see what the rules guru thinks on this.

I'll have to review the design thread before I can answer that. I was mostly on hiatus during set 12. :/

Design thread review did not shed any obvious light about the usual caveats regarding nearest enemy etc, so for now...

In urbanjedi's example, if the Stormy has cover, it cannot be targeted.

To clarify - Plagueis cannot be targeted by an enemy's special abilities or Force Powers within 6 squares, even if he is not in cover, so unless there is a closer enemy (cover or not) or another farther enemy without cover, there are no legal targets for the acting enemy character.

Other abilities that alter targeting could come into play here. (Sensors etc.)

After a quick discussion with the set 12 design team, the intent was for it to work along the lines of Diplomat.

In which case, Plagueis would not count as the nearest enemy for the question above, and the stormtrooper could be targeted.

This will be clarified in the glossary (which hasn't been written yet anyway) and FAQ.
(possible errata for the wording as well)
