I have not been able to keep up with the new movie or new Canon for star wars. Any good updates / theories?
I for one, fully believe that Rey is a Solo. In a Jacen/Jaina type role. At least than we could understand why Leia went to Rey instead of Cheque. Also it would be a good reveal in empire strikes back type fashion.

The whole thing about Luke's lightsaber summoning/calling her to it on Tacodana, seems to demonstrate some Skywalker connection for Rey. It also follows in the theme of Skywalker's being abandoned in childhood, to protect them from the "bad guys". Man, the Skywalkers all have abandonment issues. Doesn't look this will ever change. History sure does repeat itself. We'll find out in December in the "The Last Jedi".................................................. By the way, has anyone ever heard of Rian Johnson???????????

Rian Johnson is genius as far as filmmaking goes. Watch a low budget film called Brick. starring Joesph-Gordon Levitt. It is one of my all time favorite vidoes. Noir genre. He also did Looper with Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis. He has done well with every project I have seen

I think Rey is Luke's daughter. Now, is Jedi in "The Last Jedi" plural or singular?

I think he means hang around to protect when needed.
But seriously, the han Solo being your dad thing. Sure would amp up her desire to destroy kylo.

She's a kenobi (that would be cool)
Of course they're so obsessed with tying everything to the cartoons, she'll probably end up being Kanan's granddaughter

I think she's a Binks, possibly a Nass. In any case I hope we get more Gungans.

I don't think it's out of the question for her to be the daughter of Luke and Mara. In fact, that would pretty much be a master play to take away old canon but then bring back two of the fan favorites (Thrawn and Mara).

Not sure I agree, but take from this that what you will. Link https://moviepilot.com/posts/4049417This is what was said if link does not work or you cannot be bothered to read all. just remember it's a theory not fact. "finally, if you're firmly Team Rey Skywalker you might be disappointed when December 2017 rolls around, as multiple different sources claim that Luke is not Rey's father. The aforementioned Mr_Ghostface_Lives is sure of this, as is this popular Star Wars leaker. Then there's the fact that JJ Abrams himself said that Rey's parents did not appear in The Force Awakens, which pretty much counts out Luke. This ties in to other rumors about Luke and Rey discovering the origin of the Force, which stipulated that Rey was in fact the reincarnation of one of the first ever Force users — and that her parents were just normal people. While that plot point is pretty wild, there's a specific detail mentioned by the rumor which might just make it legit — the Force was first discovered in a tree, and the comic Shattered Empire featured just such a Force sensitive tree. This could be a coincidence, but it seems oddly specific"
