Hi All, I played starship battles with my uncle in like 2010 and it was OK. I just bought a collection on eBay that has pretty much as many pieces as I would ever need to play any setups I want.
I vaguely recall that someone took it upon themselves to edit the rules to make it a bit more "realistic" and fun. Does anyone know what I am talking about, and could refer me to those rules?
Thanks, AM89

Im curious to hear about this as well. I have a number of pieces and would like to use them for something other than for a RPG. I am investing/playing x wing, but cant see myself doing so for armada just yet.

One more thing, there is also the possibility to use the minis for Xwing. (at least the fighters that have come out in the game). Youd only need to debase them and make sure the holes on the bottom will fit fine for the bases you can buy separately. https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing/products/clear-bases-and-pegs/You would obviously need to get, say the starter at least, and use the bases with your fighters (say an x wing) and have 2 xwings with Luke and Biggs. I am currently planning on doing this with my Micromachine Collection. (note: the latest Star Wars MMs have deeper holes that fit the Xwing bases far better, the scale for all 3 Xwing, Starship Battles, and SW MMs is almost the same. the size differences between them are likely to be measured in the milometers, and I doubt anyone would complain about that. I will take a picture of an example. I wish, that there were an independent rule set so that I could use all of my Micromachines (star wars, star trek, babylon 5 etc) in some form of game. The above is for the fighters, unfortunately I dont think you can do this with the capital ships, as I havent seen any separate bases for them. Otherwise the scales are....pretty close for Armada Capital ships and Starship battles. (far FAR closer than Star Wars Micromachines and Armada.

incidentally, there is a variant of rules known as "GOBS" - Generic Outlandishly Big Space-fleets, Gratuitously Oversized Battles in Space, or some such acronym. you can use those with any figure and it plays similarly to XWing etc.
the cool thing about GOBS is that, if you wanted to, you can have 3D vectoring as well, it just adds 8 tables and increases game time by about 20mins or so. It is possible to make GOBS-SWRPG 3,0 interoperable, for large scale encounters.
good luck, and hopefully you have fun playing star wars battles and all.

Thanks for the responses! Some of the links were no longer valid on the SWMGamers page but I think I got the general idea. I didn't realize it required all new stat cards and all that but if the original game is awful I might give 2.0 a go.
