Greetings fellow SWM community players!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I know, it's super pre-mature, but with Gen Con approaching for many of you, I know there are many still, that can't make it to the Con this year. So, that leads me to the excitement for me and hopefully, many others that are excited to come to the Con next year. I was hoping to get a pulse check and to start the hype early, to get Epics back into the mix next year. Also, I wanted to see if anyone was interested in getting 2 more "Bounty Hunter" challenge characters going as well ( Yes, I know that lack of funding is the big one on this one )

1. & 2. Who is interested in either an Epic 500pt Tourney or an Epic Duos 200pt Tourney? Or perhaps, both?

3. Any interest in starting the design process on 2 "Bounty Hunter" challenge characters, that could be part of the design, playtest, and donation drive, to be released in time with the release of V-Set #16, and Gen Con 2018? The event would be 2 character cards that could be challenged individually in a 200 pt game, and won, by participants that challenge the "event master" in a 200pt game. This was done many years ago, and was incredible fun for all that participated. I would even volunteer to help in anyway possible ( design, playtest, donate, and even be one of the "gamemasters" at GenCon, fielding the 100pt "Bounty Hunter" challenge character/s.

Feel free to post other event ideas, as well, that you would like to see, but please give your opinions on my 3 event ideas. Thank you so much everyone. May the Force be with us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BlooMilk

If only I didn't live in Northern Canada and could actually make it. It's a dream one day to go. But those events looks awesome! And we in the north definitely appreciate getting our BHC characters

I will help design, play test, balance, find raise, etc for more bhc pieces. Practically anything, I love those pieces.

We need an OR piece (Nomi) and a Sith piece (VADER!!)

As for events, I am loving all of them. Just need to space them or with everything so I can play them all.

Funding wasn't the only issue. The BHC pieces have basically been moved to regular sets as designers have seen fit to add them (ie Revan and Father). It was discontinued more because of lack of participation at Gencon than anything else.

I am sure that designers will continue to come out with 100pt pieces as they see fit in their sets.

Epics will more than likely make an appearance at gencon 2018. It is tough to balance everything and write a schedule that appeals to everyone, but generally James tries to keep rotating stuff in and out as we have a limited number of time slots and lots of options for games anymore.

For instance there are basically 3 main time slots each day (ie 12 hours of gaming time is as much or more than most people want to do) and if an two minis specific events overlap it splits demand as most minis people would play in both.

So this year
Thursday AM -- nothing because people have always complained that it starts too early or they can't get to the dealer hall, etc.
Tursday afternoon/PM -- Champs

Fri AM -- Imperial Assault Tournament takes up all our space so no room for anything else
Fri afternoon -- Battle through the Ages
Fri Evening -- Team

Sat AM -- Casual/League uses up all of our space so no room for anything else
Sat afternoon -- Community Tournament AND Tile Wars get worked into the afternoon and early evening
Sat evening -- Royal Rumble

Sunday -- Sealed

So as you can see, it is tough to try and get stuff on the schedule as we do not have the time to run everything that everyone wants to play. And this doesn't count the fact that we worked to try and get a Galactic War type event on the schedule (but ultimately decided to try and push back to next year as there are many moving parts in something like that).

Put something fun Thurs morning and I'd play.

Fri - drop the Imperial Assault stuff. Let Fantasy Flight handle that - we are a superior game. Two of our IA events didn't even sell out (and nearly EVERYTHING sold out.)

I'd play thursday morning as well in 2018! A matter of fact if I drive down there and could have done something at that time but didn't I would be upset on missing out on a potentially awesome time.

BHC Challenge all the way.
I will be a "Gamemaster" as well (as long as it doesn't cut into other play time)

I can't say for 100% but I am guessing that Deaths_Baine would want to maximize his time playing stuff as well.
Theultrastar is more talky talky (haha) so who knows.

Sorry to rain on the BHC parade but it will not return to GenCon. I have 3 issues with this event, staffing, reporting, and hours generation.
1. Staffing was and will always continue to be an issue. I have to physically get someone to sit there and wait to see if someone turns in a ticket to play them.
2. For every event we run I need to fill out a ticket envelope with the event ID, name, time and day, dollar amount, number of regular tickets, generics, other tickets and if anyone was a comp or free player. It takes a lot of time. If we run ten hours of it it's ten envelopes for me to do. This year we ran 74 events. Adding this would add 10-20 more.
3. For us to get GenCon badges we need to run 70 gaming hours per badge. A gaming hour is number of people in an event times number of hours an event runs. For BHC to make a badge we'd have to run 35-70 sessions of it. On top of that it would be a net badge loss to the person running it unless they wanted to run it 70 of the 80 hours of the con. Yes we do have larger events that generate more badges than required GMs but running BHC would eat all of that extra.

It was a cool event to have back in the day, but we just don't have the player base to support it (and probably never did).

On the bright side I am planning on having epics make a comeback in 2018. I'm not sure of the format yet (epic tile wars??) but it will be back.

Please give me any other feed back on events that you have. I'll do my best to make it happen. Post your thoughts here or email me at Jameswys@hotmail.com

I think we had 7 "kill-em-all and maybe gambit" minis events this year (i.e. excluding mass battles and scenarios like the Rakghouls or Death Race):

* Championships
* Through the Ages
* Team
* Casual
* Tile Wars
* Royal Rumble
* Sealed

Did I miss any?

Assuming we have 7 events again next year, I think Championships, Sealed, and Team are locks to appear again. Through the Ages and Casual seemed to cover just about the same ground in that they were pre-built squads. I could see them combined into one, but a pre-built squad event should definitely be included.

That would leave three slots for "special rules" tournaments such as:
* Royal Rumble
* Tile Wars
* Epic (500? Duo? Tile Wars?)
* Dynamic Duo/Triple Threat/Force Four/etc

Royal Rumble isn't my preference but it's very popular so would probably get a slot. Epics weren't present this year so they should probably make a return in some format (I'd vote for Epic 500). For the last slot I'd vote Tile Wars or Force Four.

Really beginning to feel like Rodney Dangerfield...Assassins. We had the best Assassins game I've ever run this year.

Sorry Jim - didn't mean to leave anyone out. I think that's in the category with Rakghoul Hunting and Death Race, though. It's special scenario rules as opposed to the events I listed, which have special squadbuilding rules but still come down to kill-em-all (possibly with gambit scoring as well).

I think it might be fun to incorporate epic into the royal rumble format, maybe have 1 of the three duos that a player uses cost a total of up to 200 and include 1 epic piece? Just a thought but might be fun, haven't really thought too much about the way it might affect game balance in that format, but since it is a more casual event anyway it may be a good fit. Would definitely have a strategy aspect to it, do you bring in your epic duo first and try to last as long as possible, or wait and bring them in later and clean up the battlefield, or it could be ruled that everyone plays them either first or last. I would love to see other opinions on this idea if anyone wants to share theirs.

Epic 500 combined into Mystery Map would be an interesting event also.

Just asking here.
How many people would need to play too make it worth it?
If we are doing epics this year maybe bhc next year.
But I think if it is just a numbers issue, we can probably get the numbers

Its not a number of player to play its just an efficient model. In 2013 we ran 23 sessions of BHC. We had 2 spots per session so we need 46 hours of a person GMing to fully staff it. We had 23 people play (24 played in the champs that year). So one per session, however many sessions had no one play and just as many had 2 play. If we ran it the same way I'd need to have almost 6 new GMs to run this event and it would generate 66% of a single badge and at best $184. It would also take me an additional 5-6 hours of planning at home (coordinating GM schedules isn't the easiest) and probably another 2 hours on site. We didn't run Dejarik at GenCon this year for many of the same reasons and I was able to have a 6/1 player to GM ratio.

All that being said, is be glad to see a new 100 point mini made, I just can't see running it as a ticketed event at GenCon.

I also did a bit more digging. In 2014 we submitted a full slate of BHC events. GenCon cut us to one days worth, six 2 player sessions. We had 10/12 attendance. The real problem is this. At GenCon this year we had 20ish swm players. 2/4 of them would judge the event. The other 16 or so would play over 8 hours. In that time no other swm events could happen because a good percentage of our player pool is either GMing or playing BHC. So the real question is, which two swm events that we run now would we want to cut to make room for BHC?
