Alright with Halloween right around the corner all sorts of creepy things are appearing in stores, the media and people's lawns and when it comes to Star Wars there are few things creepier then the Nightsisters. They have been in books and games before but it wasn't until the Clone Wars that we really got to delve into their society, especially after seeing the Massacre episode where Grievous led a heroic effort to save the Galaxy by ridding it of them (what? It's my Week I can spin the war propaganda how I want Hahaha)

So the challenge this week is to design an addition to the existing Nightsister subfaction, unique, non-unique, Rancor, whatever and make some creepy witches for Grievous to hunt down hahaha


1. You may update any existing versions you already have and/or create a new one. You may update/create several versions of the character but you must ultimately select 1 you wish to run with. (this must be done by the schedule below)

2. Place a hyperlink in this forum to make it easier to find your character. You can just post the stats or image here but if changes are needed it would be easier (and save space) if you just used a Hyperlink (If you don't know how to post Hyperlinks in a forum setting please ask and we will help you. It's not hard )

3. Voting works as follows, pick your three favorite customs based on accuracy to the character, design, balance or whatever you decide makes the best incarnation of the challenge character. First place receives 3 points, 2nd place receives 2 points, and 3rd place receives 1 point.

4. You do not have to enter the contest in order to vote. But unless you enter you must have at lest 10 forum posts.

5. To make things fair you must vote in order to win the contest. You must choose three characters entered in the contest and you may not rate or vote for your own character.

6. The winner will be decided by how many points they receive. Ties will be broken by most 1st place votes, then if still tied, 2nd place votes and then 3rd place votes. If still tied, then the outcome is a tie.

7. You may not change or update the entered character AFTER the deadline.


You will have until Sat, October 28th, 2017 @8pm EST to get your submissions in. Anything submitted after this point will not be included in the voting.

Voting will start at 8pm on Saturday evening and end at 10pm EST on Monday, October 30th ,2017.
At the conclusion of the voting the scores will be tallied and the winner will start a new topic with their choice of theme.

Asajj Ventress, Nightsister Champion

I find it odd to allow Asajj, Nightsister into an Imperial Squad via Nightsister Mother, so I have taken this week to "redo" her in a manner of speaking.

Great stuff Surf, my only critique is I feel like Talzin should have stronger bubble (maybe even Force Shield the Yoda epic ability as her shield stayed on around her as she flew around or at least Bubble 3) and a stronger lighting like Chain Lighting. If you watch the Massacare episode she literally fries a sea of Droids from far away with lightning that makes Sideous's and Dooku's Lightning look like dead batteries. Maybe upping it to chain lighting? What you have is great but she was so powerful Sideous considered her to be a personal and one of the strongest threats to his plans. But She looks really balanced and fantastic as is so you could leave her like that, she just is not as powerful as I think she should be being someone that went toe to toe against Windu and had to be taken down by Grievous/Dooku/Palpatine team up. And I feel like illusion of fear should either not replace attacks or be a force ability that stays on or else I can't see her using it.

Spiderclan is fantastic as is and really adds to the faction, may be a couple points overcosted? Which being fringe non-unique is probably a safe bet

You see, I never actually Saw the cartoon ... I just went with Wook. Fear is something new and I wasn't sure if it was "powerful" enough; apparently not ... as for Sith Lightning, I used it more for the brevity of its description than any other reason .... can only put so much onto a card .....


Edit - Be it on your head GG ... peeked at the cartoon .... changes made on Talzin .....

Well done Surf, now THAT is a threat to Sideous haha. With the change to Force Fear you may want to either drop the save part or change the wording to reflect it being on each characters turn.

I think I'm just trying to figure out when the save triggers. Do characters have to roll it each time they activate? Each time they move within 3? Or once and it's good for the rest of the game?

I'm unclear on this as well. I *think* it is meant to affect characters in range at the moment she uses it. Failed save, it sticks for the skirmish. When / how often can she use it?

Surf, apologies in advance, but as a Rules/QC guy, I also have a few nits to pick with some other stuff on her card. (I realize you're battling card space) I'll be back later to elaborate.

That said, she's looking pretty awesome after the changes. ThumpUp

Card space does indeed matter but if I can, I'll adjust; if not the flavor may go and if necessary, something else.

Regarding Fear of Illusion, I would "Think" if you go into its range, you make a save and that result lasts as long as you're within 6 squares. If you leave and reenter, wouldn't you roll again and go with That new roll? I'm open to the Ruling Guru .... Once used, isn't it also for every/anyone who enters that 6 square area for the skirmish? That's my intent, anyway.

"Whenever you might need it" is pretty complicated, since it's affecting both offensive and defensive factors. I think it needs to be activated either proactively, or reacting to something on the enemy's turn. On her turn is probably simplest.

The save timing is also tough to include in card text, but good glossary might handle it. A lower penalty with no save would eliminate that issue. And/or just no save. Sneaky

Otherwise, it's basically a persistent Force ability (of which, those don't need the typical extra wordiness as they can't be turned off anyway, except by killing the character, which the range requirement covers inherently, unless stuff like Force Light should affect them)

Continuing with my pedantry (see earlier advance apology Wink), Camaraderie should probably be Force Bond (the Sisterhood were all Force sensitive I think?)

The Rapport effect should be broken out from Affinity... which... (deep breath, avoid giant screed about Affinity and Fringe (perhaps arguably) not being a defined Faction under WotC rules)... should be a CE like old Ulic or v-set 100pt Fringe Revan, so wherever she takes Savage/Asajj etc they don't change to that faction. Also, I think she qualifies as a Leader.

Now that I've sucked up a bunch of oxygen... I really do like her, and I suppose CCC is more of a casual affair, so if anyone has Dr. Evazan's number, maybe he can excise the rules helmet fused to my skull. Razz

This is why it's awesome having you in the CCC Swinefeld. Good critique and explanation of what I was trying to say haha. Also realistically the CCC is a great starting point for new characters, concepts, and abilities that get tossed out, publicly peer-reviewed and critiqued and make a good first basis for designers to draw on when designing. I think many of the CCC versions of characters, especially the final winners of each week, are generally a lot simpler, safer and more balanced then their actual Vset versions. And it's my hope that these contests inspire creativity, respect, enjoyment and genuine community in our game and players.

Anyways enough thoughts, let's see some more witches hahaha

200 college units and my brain is fried from dealing with 14 yr. olds .....

OK, lets see if I got this

1. Regarding Fear - screw'em all, no save.

2. Camaradarie = Force Bond

3. Affinity = Affinity (non-uniques to avoid Savage and Asajj + Rapport (cost 2 less.)

School hasn't even started and I already feel dead OMG

surf - it seems your affinity is affinity +rapport I'm guessing that was for space? For illusion of fear how about something like Corruption, where it causes a condition (Afraid: -3/-3) and once per round the enemy can attempt a save 16 to remove the effect that should clear up any when do I save issues. If you really need space just drop the flavor text as cool as it is.
