Regionals will start up soon. Map list change typically happens shortly after Frosty Con (although last year it wasn't until May). So what would you change about the current map list?

Current list:

Dark Side
Cloud City
Dark Academy
Outlaw City
Command Deck
Imperial Plaza

Light Side
Ravaged Base
Bothan Spynet
Simulation Deck
Modular Base
Great Library

I would drop Ravaged Base and Command Deck for sure. I would a similar type map function to replace them.

My reasoning for Ravaged Base is because it is used over and over again. for command deck is that no one really uses it

I would drop simulation deck and Imperial Plaza as well. So 2 from each side.

There are differences of opinion on how big the map list should be. I think I've heard arguments for as few as 6 or 8 or as many as 20. I like 12 or 15 in 3 groups (or 4 or 5) as a good number.

I don't have any real objections to the current map list in terms of any of the maps being "unworthy" of the Restricted list. But here are 3 I don't enjoy as much as the others:

Modular Base
Dark Academy
Imperial Plaza

So I'd drop those. I think I'd also drop Great Library since it's been on there for a while.

Keeping the other 6 (Cloud City, Outlaw City, Command Deck, Ravaged Base, Bothan Spynet, Simulation Deck).
And then adding in several that have rotated out to go back up to a 15 map list:

Gangster's Vault (especially this one)
Rhen Var
Jabba's Palace
Cantina Map
Theed Palace
Throne Room
Crime Lord's Palace

And then some new blood to change things up. A couple from this list:
Commercial Spaceport
Remote Listening Post
One of the Pirate Moon maps

Edit: Someone talked me out of Commercial Spaceport and Throne Room.

I would like to see them switch it up with like one non-conventional map. Like a WotC map that hasn't been used in a while or some other map that hasn't been used in a while. I would agrre with simulation and command decks being ousted.

I like the current set up with 2 sets of 5, but I'd be ok with 2 sets of 6.

I use Command Deck often. I'm surprised to see it get two downvotes already. I don't really care either way on Simulation Deck, although it was my GenCon map last year.

I included Throne Room in my suggestions, which fits that criteria.

Regardless of what is added or changed (I for one like the current map list quite a bit) I really think Crime Lord's Palace needs to make its way back on. It's literally the most balanced map for Huges in the game.

Somehow I knew you'd say that.

I concur, map list should be as Huge-compatible as possible. Smile

Agreed - but the most huge-friendly maps often end up being very shooter-friendly, too.

Easy to read version of my suggestions without all my commentary:

6 holdovers from the 2017 Restricted List:
Cloud City
Outlaw City
Command Deck
Commander's Office (Ravaged Base)

Bothan Spynet
Simulation Deck

6 previous restricted maps returning:
Rhen Var
Gangster's Vault
(especially this one)
Jabba's Palace
Cantina Map
Theed Palace
Crime Lord's Palace

1 new option: (conveniently in stock at Miniature Market)
Remote Listening Post

My top requests for a return to the Restricted List are Gangster's Vault and Rhen Var.

(Just to bump the thread)

I 100% disagree that rhen var should be back in the list.
Takes forever to get to Gambit some squads struggle hardcore on it and it has been on the last 5 sets or so before this one..
It has seen it's fair share of time.
I am all for getting less used maps more time and rotating the Staples.
I say commanders office has to go for sure.

I would even drop bothan spynet (even though it is a Vader/Mastermind dream come true with that battle ready) I would probably add jabbas palace and smugglers base to the list since they are so fun and engaging maps.

I think we should always have at least 2 WotC maps on the list, and Commander's Office (Ravaged Base) is far and away the best WotC map, so it's easy to give it one of those slots. I'd say Cloud City is 2nd on the WotC list, but there's a pretty big gap between those two maps. I wouldn't mind seeing those 2 keep their WotC slots and have everything else rotated out annually. We have enough good maps from Matt and Chris that we can do a full swap out (of everything but the WotC maps) every year and still have a great map list. But there are also a few non-WotC maps that I like enough that I wouldn't mind seeing them stick around for a long time (e.g. Rhen Var, Gangster's Vault, Outlaw City).

That is some super grandpa juice map. Screw WOTC. they sucked. They made arguably the worse pieces ever in the game that have kept the game from going somewhere since they came out. I can only imagine what i would think if I was pting Mas Amedda and Thrawn....
hahaha
I do not understand the loyalty to WOTC, they sucked.
as for Commander's Office. It is not the best map, it is hard to play on and one side has to go through some lame yellow squares and it is a perfect swap squad map (yoda/kybuck and Thrawn). it is a movement breaker map.

One door separating it but HUGE lines of Sight from super far away.

All I am saying is that 30% of my matches probably end up on Commander's Office. Time to move on imo.

I guess my point in writing is not to diss Commander's Office but more to ask why the loyalty to WOTC?

30% on one map? You need to insist on different maps! At least when you're not in a tournament.

Four Map Pack 6 maps went onto the Restricted List for a year but were quickly rotated out. One of them proved to be a problem map (Knight's Enclave) and certainly won't be returning. One wasn't really a problem but wasn't very popular (Pirate Moon - SW). The other two got good reviews and will hopefully return: Gangster's Vault and Crime Lord's Palace (not to be confused with Jabba's Palace). Starport District is another one that I wouldn't mind seeing make a return. I didn't play on it much when it was on the list for a year, but seemed like a decent enough map.
