And it's over!!!

The game ends in concession from thereisnotry after Mace betrays to Traya.

The supreme irony of a piece that is the epitomy of ridiculous luck creating insane swings betraying to another piece with a ridiculous luck ability is just . . . amazing.

Let's dump both pieces, lol

Congratulations to Jason "urbanjedi" Kiernan! He has captures yet another regional win to add to his record-holding collection.

Thanks - everyone for playing!

I am assuming he had already spent force twice on the turn or was out of points with which to reroll? Hopefully the Vassel dice didn't hit him with 3 rolls of 1 in a row.

This looked like fun. Sorry I was not able to attend, an emergency veterinary appointment was required due to an unnamed incident involving my dog, a porcupine, and my stupid dog getting quilled in the face by a porcupine. Hopefully will be able to join next time.

Heading into the regional, I was undecided what to play so I was looking through Laura's cache of squads, when she asked if I could play a triumvirate squad against her (which of course she had already built) so that she could practice against it. She had added a force ghost instead of some of the fodder and we played a couple games. I learned alot and switched up to the squad that I actually played. In all reality, I probably should have upgraded one of the uggies to a sith pawn for an extra reroll as I had the point, and if I play it again, I might as 2 sith ordinance guys plus 1 uggie should be plenty of door control for me

on gangsters Vault

Before the tournament after all the squads were posted, Laura and I both thought that Trevor's mace/obi/sev/scorch squad would likely win the whole thing as it looked to have decent matchups against most of the other squads.

I named the squad as I did because I was trying to word play of trinity or Tri and that's when I thought it would be fun if I borrowed Trevors name with a twist.

Rd 1 VS Trevor and his mace
On gangsters vault, trevor was on the left. I put Traya up front with the nexus. He towed up sev to do some shooting, but betrayed, but was easily able to kill his own sev with a nice easy mace attack. He ended up leaving mace next to R2 for rd 2 shenanigans. I used the assassin to levitate nihilus then easy path from the nexus to move him more so that he could get within range of R2 and zap him with lightning. Rd 2 I won init and I ran nihilous away. He advanced his guys and I was able to use traya to hit him once for 20 and then hit him for 40 more with two drain lifes. Rd 3, I won init again, and with Traya plus saccing XT for nihilus was able to kill off mace. At that point, with my guys all full health it was pretty much over. Obi can't handle the direct damage and his offense wasn't near enough to deal with it.

1-0 3pts

Rd 2 Spry with his take on Traya nexus
I don't remember this game very well except he missed a couple of attacks (to be fair nihilus is a 26D vs force users), and there was a key init that if he won, he could have killed my nihilus that I won and was able to hunger to stop that from happening, then later he even failed his eternal hatred save on his sion (I made mine), so won a nailbiter.

2-0 6pts

Rd 3 vs Bryan and his new thon song.

My fake trevor squad powering through. Bryan force defensed my lightning with thon, but because he was within range of nihilus and his wound in the force, it basically took thon out of the game. Some Drains/Hungers, and even moved up sith ordinance guy took care of metra. Then he forgot metra was dead and was going to go crazy with his executor, but I made enough defense saves to just stay alive, and when thon fell over, the executor was crushed to death. That pretty much summed up the game there. Again Nihilus was really low on life and just a hit away from death more than once.

3-0 9pts

rd 4 vs timmer and his snowspeeders.
My squad is not that good against heavy shooters as showed in this game. I forgot that snowspeeders weren't living so made a slight mistake pushing all in on wedge and leaving him alive at 10 instead of killing him. Wedge did betray right away, but in the end it didn't matter as he was able to torch traya with Luke (with help from Leia and chopper) to get his wedge back. At this point I Realized that the only way I Could win was to beat his MTB clock. He left me a nice cluster to lightning (wedge, the tech, and a mouse) followed by a burst to another mouse to really speed up the clock. I gave some AoOs on sion to get to another mouse (and to pin kneesa) to keep the clock on. Luke missed just enough shots and Nihilus made every just enough defense saves to stay alive at very dangerously low health. I pulled nihilus back just far enough and tim forgot about presence of the dark side the turn before the nexus killed itself (he could have possibly killed his own MTB that way) that even though he finally got nihilus, the MTB clock got him.

4-0 12 pts

Semis vs Randy
Randy thought he was out, so was unavailable to play this game. I did play a game against mike (5th place) while the other semis were going on, and his OR shooters couldn't stand up to ambush triple plus a drain life. Killed klat capt and uggie with lightning/burst lightning combo from nihilus. Then retreated nihilus. Then ambushed and killed (with drain) carth with traya, then based and pinned down mira with sion who came back once before traya could get out and help finish mira. Then Atton obliterated Traya, but it was not enough. Nihilus and Sion finished off Atton and mike conceded with 2 senators and Bastilla left.

Onto the finals.

While talking to mike just after our game ended, he checked in on the other match and said it looked really close. Thon with 20, mace with 20, etc. Then a second later he said, WOW!!!, thon and meetra are now both dead, looks like trevor has it. So a rematch with Trevor.

Finals with Fake Trevor (me) vs real trevor (TINT)
I won map this time, so he got to set up on the other side. I basically figured, I would have to avoid a critdu explosion but felt that if I could, I could do enough direct damage, and once Mace was gone, it would be to my advantage. He move up mace (and out of 5 rolls, hit only one with a high of 10 on his first smashing) making his presence save and doing 20 total to nihilous, then backed away. Nihilus stole his last 2 FP with Hunger and zapped with burst and then backed a way a little bit. Lobbed up Traya, ran up close enough to telekinetic combat (he made Defense save off the holocron) and took 40 from 2 Drains. I think used the nexus to build a sorta wall around nihilus with sion. and we finished up the round. He won init in rd 2, and smashed mace against my wall of traya/sion and rolled a bunch of duds, and finally out of force, and on his last attack rolled a 1 to betray. At this point he conceded and we chatted a bit after the game.

We both came to the conclusion that because Nihilus is such a beast against Jedi, that he was fighting an uphill battle and even if mace goes crit crazy and kills traya there, that mace will still most likely die that round. Which then leaves the same problem as before with Obi and 2 clones trying to take out nihilus who basically hungers after obi for free (until obi is out of force), and then its just gets worse for him. The fact that nihilus and Traya both gain back life with their force means that the other squad just can't trade damage, it has to do massively more damage.

It was a bummer that Randy was unavailable as I think his squad would have given me a very hard time as against Laura's Ta Ta Hunts squad she was able to win (in practice) just by doing enough ranged damage that I couldn't keep up. And the fact that I most likely should have lost to Tim and his shooters meant that I think Randy would have given me very difficult time because of the super stealth and the even if I closed the gap, he had shields, and since I only usually do 20 at a time, he could probably hold me off, especially since I wouldn't be stealing force from him.

In summation.

It is a very good squad, but probably not quite top tier as it has some things that it really, really struggles against.

Thanks to Tim for running this and keeping track of pairings and such. Thanks to all the others that played, most of my games were actually pretty close (Even if the final scores didn't look like it), and hope to see everyone at some of the future vassal events.

Well done J!
Thanks for organising Tim, and thanks for involving us kiwis! I know both Ollie and I had a wonderful time today. I really enjoyed the banter and game play, and most of all enjoyed catching up with my friends that I met in the US 2 years ago.
I feel very blessed to know you guys and girls.

Enjoy your sunday,.. thanks for the games!
I so enjoyed playing a new republic pilot squad with jaina and kyp ... and that lando piece is awesome.

until next time!
