Ok, I've gotta say it: I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING INTO SWM WITHDRAWAL! After what seems like a nearly non-stop string of SWM events from March through August, there has been almost nothing since then.... Furthermore, V-Set 20 has so many cool new figures that I have a whole bunch of squads that I want to play, but no opportunity to play them. Finally, there are currently no SWM events scheduled on Vassal for the month of November, and so I want to announce the.... November Light-Side / Dark-Side TournamentSaturday, November 28, starting at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)Please mark your calendars! Since it is one of my personal favorite formats, and since it also allows us to use 2 squads rather than the usual 1, it seems to me that the LS/DS format will be a good way to go. Matchups:Before the tournament, all players will build two 200pt squads (including a map selection)...one from one of the LS factions, and one from one of the DS factions. These are regular, single-faction 200pt squads (with Fringe pieces allowed to be mixed into any squad, as per usual). For the purposes of this event, this is the faction breakdown: Light Side factions:OR Republic Rebel NR Fringe Dark Side factions:Sith Separatist Imperial Yuuzhan Vong Mandalorian * At the start of each match-up, players will roll off. * The winner gets to select which of his/her squads he would like to play (LS or DS); the other player will then play with the squad he/she brought from the opposite faction (DS or LS). Alternatively, the winner of the roll-off can choose to defer this choice to his/her opponent. * The player who did not select the squad match-up then automatically wins the map choice AND the side choice for that match. Format:As per usual on Vassal, rounds will be 75 minutes. We will play Swiss Rounds until we arrive at one undefeated player, at which point we will make a top cut. --less than 6 players: Top 2 --6-10 players: Top 4 --11+ players: First we celebrate at having so many players...WOOHOO! Then we cut to a Top 8. Maps:We will use all the maps on the Restricted Maplist for this event (yes, they are all available on the most recent version of Vassal): -Throne Room -Starport Terminal -Starport District -Bothan Spynet (Spynet HQ) -Rhen Var (Ice World Citadel) -Outlaw City -Cantina -Ravaged Base (Commander's Office) Registration:If you'd like to play, please respond in this thread. Just like with other SWM events on Vassal, you can register for the event up to 1 hour before the start time (so 11:00 am EDT). I will post in this thread when I've sent my squad info to a neutral party, after which point you will be free to send me your squad info. When you do so, please send me a BlooMail which includes the following information: LS Squad Name:LS Squad Link:LS Squad Map:DS Squad Name:DS Squad Link:DS Squad Map:In order to save time and hassle during the event, please take a moment to pre-Save both of your squads before the event begins. If you're reading this, then I hope you can join us! This event is free, and open to anyone who knows the rules and wants to play. It doesn't matter if you haven't played for more than 12 parsecs and it's not important whether you're a padawan or a sith master. To quote a very gifted and astute individual, "We would be honoured if you would join us...."Participants:in!thereisnotry DarthBainCapital urbanshmi adamb0nd TimmerB123 possibly in...??urbanjedi ?? When you build your LS and DS squads, do you build from all those factions? or pick one and build faction pure? No fringe unless you play LS?

I should be in. J will know closer to the date (but he's been off work on Saturdays a lot, so this should work for him, as well).

adamb0nd wrote:When you build your LS and DS squads, do you build from all those factions? or pick one and build faction pure? No fringe unless you play LS? You build a squad from one of those factions (always allowing for Fringe pieces to be included in any squad, of course). So no, it's not a mash-up squad from all of the Light-Side or all of the Dark-Side factions. Thanks for asking me to clarify! I'll update with this info in the original post. EDIT: The original post is now updated with clearer wording.

It's not near-weekly like it was during regionals season, but it has been far more active than most Fall Star Wars Minis seasons.

It's just a tournament so it doesn't really matter, but most of the pure Fringe subfactions are criminals (Black Sun, Hutts, Crimson Dawn, Bounty Hunters). Mandalorians are a mixed bag, and their most famous representatives are themselves bounty hunters, but I personally would have flip-flopped Fringe to dark side and Mandos to light-side. Though I guess there is some balance to have at least one of the Ysalamiri pieces on the Light-half since Pellaeaon and the Vong are both darkside.

This arrangement is entirely to prevent the strangle-hold of sith force dominance that comes when it doesn't have to deal with Ysalamiri or Force Immunity.

I would love to play, but unfortunately this is Thanksgiving weekend. I'll be out of town all weekend. Sorry

Oops! I’ve moved back to Canada and I forgot to consider American thanksgiving weekend. Should we move the event to November 21 or December 5? Either would be fine for me.

I can't do it earlier in November, as I have a big paper due that day. But definitely do what works the best for the most people.

It doesn't look like moving the date will allow more people to participate, so we might as well keep the original November 28 date.

I'm a maybe. Long, daytime tournaments don't usually fit my schedule, but Thanksgiving weekend makes it more likely to work. I'm probably still less than 50/50, though. Incidentally, if you push the start time back 2 or 3 hours you might be able to pick up a NZ player or two. But probably not necessary to consider that unless one of them actually requests.
