Is movement required to use this special ability?
The glossary does not specify, like it does on similar abilities. Then again, it could've just been Battering Charge +10 if it needed movement.
Battering Assault +10 Glossary Text: Instead of taking its normal turn, this character can move up to double its Speed, then attack each adjacent target once at +10 Damage. Determine legal targets before making the first attack roll. Huge or smaller characters hit by this attack are pushed back 2 squares from this character; Push movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

This should be updated in the glossary then.

Why make a new ability if it plays the same as Battering Charge?

After talking to some other people (thanks gandalf) - you are right that they are different. The difference: * Battering Assault explicitly disallows the lawnmower effect. * Battering Assault is only for adjacent targets. Battering Charge would work for all targets if it were on a nonmelee piece. Admiral Raddus hands out Battering Assault, potentially to a nonmelee piece, which is why Battering Assault was invented in the first place.

Thanks for the deep dive into this. It makes sense now, but obviously had me confused!
