With Crab Armor 2 and Yun Ne'shel devotion, you can mathematically roll a 1 and still succeed.

We all know for sure that a 1 rolled for an attack is an auto miss. Is it an auto fail for saves? If so - I cannot find where it says that anywhere.

Funnily enough, this was addressed in the Clone Wars Rulebook, though I don't see why as it was never possible to roll enough with a 1 or roll too little with a 20 in those days.

"Save: Many special abilities and Force powers require a character to save against a listed number to avoid or reduce an adverse effect. Roll the d20. If the result of the roll equals or exceeds the listed number, the save succeeds. As with attacks, a roll of natural 20 on a save is an automatic success, and a roll of natural 1 is an automatic failure."

Was it GOWK? Force Spirit -> GOWK can spend Force points three times, and could theoretically fail and reroll a save three times, resulting in +12 to saves via Mettle.
