In the wake of two new characters with Faith in the Force- ones far younger and more powerful- being added to the Old Republic faction, a number of posts and questions have popped up about the interactions between Faith in the Force, Advanced Battle Meditation, Disciplined Leader, Ysalamiri, and similar abilities. People have debated these back and forth and come to different conclusions. The rules committee has been discussing these on and off, and after we talked about it on SHNN last week we have decided to make a pre-Vassal Con ruling so that everyone is aware of how Faith in the Force works with or against these other abilities.

Faith in the Force is a special ability that, among other things, allows some characters to use and affect characters with their Force powers even in situations when they would usually not be able to. Since Faith in the Force has been added to more factions and so can be combined with more Force powers, there have been questions and confusion about specific interactions that weren't possible before. The one we are answering is about "super-ABM"- i.e. Advanced Battle Meditation combined with Faith in the Force- against an enemy commander with Disciplined Leader. This appears as a case of an unstoppable force against an immovable object- a Force power which (with FitF) cannot be prevented from affecting characters (by suppressing their commander effects), against a commander effect which cannot be suppressed. So the question is which one "trumps" the other.

TL;DR ruling: Even while within range of Faith in the Force, Advanced Battle Meditation cannot suppress commander effects of characters whose commander effects are immune to suppression because they have Disciplined Leader or a similar ability.

In making this ruling, we are sticking to a more narrow reading of what FitF can allow you to get around. It doesn't let Force powers ignore just anything, but the kinds of things listed in its glossary- Ysalamiri, Force Immunity (and Suppressive Fire), Force Defense, Force Absorb (and Force Curse), that explicitly cancel Force powers or prevent them from affecting characters. It doesn't let your Force powers suppress things that can't be suppressed (like Disciplined Leader CEs) or prevent damage that can't be prevented (Overwhelming Power etc). FitF can allow ABM to ignore Ysalamiri and Force Immunity, though.
