Either I couldn't get the search to work right, or I couldn't find an answer rolling back for several pages.
I'm pretty new to gambit scoring, and just need some basic clarification, apologies in advance if it's basic material for alot of you. :)
When it says "Ignore low objects and walls" does that essentially mean "Treat them as open terrain"?
To give an example (if only to contextualize it for myself) the Rancor pen, where the bulk of the Gambit area is wall, would be traversable as normal terrain?

You can't move through the walls that are in gambit if thats what your asking, you count 4 squares out from the gambit point, it counts through walls and difficult terrian as regular squares.

I rarely say this, but there's something about this I don't get, or feel like i'm missing, and I can't seem to put it together without a visual clue. (Totally my fault.)
Are they treated as regular for the purposes of counting from the center?
Maybe another question will help.
I count 14 squares on the Rancor map that aren't in the wall zone.
Those 14 squares are the only ones you can score gambit points on?(because you can't step onto the ones full of wall?)

no, when you are counting out 4 sqaures to see where the gambit ends , DONT count terrain. (and dont stop at a wall) But you do count diagonals as 2 squares Hope this helps, MAINEiac

When playing, the gambit zone can be walled off in part? Or? Sorry, I feel like i"m being really obtuse, here, I just can't wrap my head around it, particularly with that rankor map. Looking at Fingerandteeth's example on the Holocron, it seems like he gambit area takes up the standard center 24 squares. But on the rancor map, 10 of these squares seem totally inaccesable when the template from Holocron is applied. If I'm reading it right, they do remain unreachable, even though they are in the gambit zone. Or do I end up with a big wierd template of gambit outside of the normal xx xxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxx xx pattern. I'm actually making all of my tournament maps with sharpie today for their gambit zones, lol, thought it would easier long term. *edited

It's 4 squares from the center regardless of terrain, which means that yes, some maps will have sections that are walled off or completely inaccessable (Rancor Pit is probably the worst).

The area in the red outline is the Gambit zone - you cannot stand inside the wall, but if you have a character within that area then you can score gambit points. You count 4 squares from the center ignoring terrain/etc.

Thanks everyone1 Particularly Draconarius. The Rancor example seemed like the perfect baseline! Sorry again for the ignorance on my part.

i just started playing Gambit, and am still confused (my fault). Ok, the example above shows the zone 3 squares tall (from the center), and 3 squares wide. so if i am in a square adjacent to the zone, im still scoring Gambit points? when i play Gambit, i use one giant square thats 8 squares tall, and 8 squares wide (divided from the center mind you.) thats how i learned how to play on vassal. im sorry for the repeat of the question, im just making sure i have all bases covered for an upcoming tournament. i dont want any surprises.....

Well on most maps the center is not on a square, it is in between 4 different squares. So the first square you count from gambit is diagonal from the center, thus counting as 2 squares. Hope this clears it up.
