Just a couple demo squads I made up. I tried to make them specific factions only(although I gave the Rebels a Camaasi Noble). Also, it might be lopsided in the Rebel favor since they have R2 with Sensor.

Otherwise do they seem evenly matched?

Please leave some feedback. These are demo squads to introduce the game to new players. Just trying to generate some interest at my local game store...

Nice demos. Imperial don't have door control but i think not that important for a demo. Small change : I'd drop the caamasi for Leia Organa, Senator in the rebel demo.

If it is just to demo ie for fun maybe change the Vader to the Dark Jedi from Rebel Storm. That one was a blast to play when I first started. I once saw him kill his own AT-ST. My cousin had that game won dead to rights too. He just laughed his head off. I know you have him in there for the CE though.

R2 is the only advantage the Rebel squad would have. DEF 22 (or more with Cover) Stormtroopers should eat Rebel troopers for lunch. Vader may have a slight edge on Luke but the Emperor blows away Obi's Ghost who's only real benefit is giving Luke Mettle as Force Renual is redundant. The commandoes may have an "advantage" over the Scouts with twice the hit points and grenades but they cost nearly twice as much and don't get the big kick to DEF that Vader gives the scouts.

My thought on a balanced pair would be to use a living Obi-Wan with a smaller Luke and getting rid of R2. I also think the Rebel grunts don't stack up well against the Imperials and would see about changing that balance a bit.

Needs work. The Commandos and Troopers will get eaten alive against the stormies as currently constructed, and Luke is not enough to save them. I'd put in a big beatstick Vader at the expense of some Scout Troopers. New players like powerful Jedi, and absolutely everyone likes Vader.

Personally, I would include some form of Han Solo and/or another version of Obi-Wan or take out palpaptine to balience it out. So that there is only one or two major heros each side. Heros generally speaking in lower point levels are worth more then their weight in troops.

Generally, a few pointers.

1) Give the Empire one huge leadership beater and give the Rebels multiple, solid heros. Like either Obi Force Unleashed or the orignal, a decent Luke Skywalker with a range of solid abilitys like Block/Push and a Han Solo with Lila dipomate with a solid back range of troops against Dark Vader Jedi Hunter, a very strong and solid, or a version that enhances stormtroopers, with a huge backing of the stormtroopers with the odd leader for the Heros to kill, but also be cornered by to serve as a irritation force. Instantly recongizable, and gives them a good link to the game, and also gives a little nod to the story, such as Obi with his force spirit.

2) If one side has override, give the otherside a form of override or door distruction, use a house rule to control the ability, or at least use a map that makes a complete lockout impossible. While it's fun and tactical throught should be rewarded, the game is meant to ease people into the game. Some people may get really frustrated if they end up in such a situation.

3) Lastly, test these Demos, against yourself or with someone else, sometimes only gameplay can pick out potencial issues.

Thanks for the great comments. My buddy and I tried these out. We found maybe 150 pts is a lot for a demo, especially at our game store where it's "short attention span theater".

We tried with just 100 pts on each side, game came down to initiative. I'll look at trying with some of your guys' suggestions, as they are all good.

In the 100 pt Imperial, I took out Palpatine, and had less Stormtroopers. The Rebel side still had Luke and R2 with Obi-Wan spirit... and the lockout issue was apparent. The map I was wanting to run the demo on was the Imperial Base aka Throne Room. Will try dropping the Luke and R2 and put in a cheaper Luke with Han Solo(I'm limited on my Rebel Leia's unfortunately). I have Hoth, Cloud City, and Rebel Hero Leia's... Leaning towards the Hoth Commander for the minor chance of Rebel peons not dying.

I know others have posted "Demo" and "start" squads in the past but don't ask me how well searching for them works.

I'd say 100 points is probably the best size for a demo squad as it keeps things short and simple. As for squad composition, I'd say having a commander, a character with force powers, and several grunts would be the best squad. Also, I'd try to avoid using more complex special abilities and force powers like Stealth and Force Repulse.

Personally, I'd do something like:

Darth Vader, CotS
Reborn x2
Heavy Stormtrooper
Stormtrooper x4

Vs.

Luke Skywalker, Jedi
Chewbacca
Rebel Captain
Elite Rebel Trooper x2
Rebel Trooper x2

Another thought would be to have more than just the two squads (perhaps 1 for each faction), which would give newer players a taste of their favorite star wars group and show off how diverse the matchups can be.
