What do you think of the set so far? Do you think the new pieces will be able to stand up to the old ones?

I'll reserve my judgement until I can play with the pieces.

usually when new pieces come out, they find a way to out do the older ones. in this case though, we have a ton of new abilities, so its hard to say whether this particular set will overshadow any previous characters from other sets. I will say that the new BHs will absolutely take over the helm from the older BH minis, though. they are priced perfectly, and have better HP and defense. so yea, as far as the BHs go, the older ones will get a nice long nap.

I have to say the set is shaping up pretty good. I like seeing new abilities and I love the Bounty hunters but it don't seem like its has the power pieces that some of the previous sets had.

The set seems like it has some really nice pieces that could be useful (the new, remade bounty hunters, Merumeru, some of the new Jedi, ect.), but none of it looks like it could be game changing like stuff in other sets have had.

Game changing? Not really. The game will carry on whether or not these figures are released. The rebel/Repubilic are nice, but generally don't fit. I recon the closes to game changing is Kir Kalos offering a cheap swap ninja, Dangars 1 shooting mid class figures at high accuacy and a commander for Tuxains that make upgrade them from reltively crap to interesting status.
Then lastly, the Stormtroopers of the 501st is by far one of the best infantry to grace this game except for senate commandos and Mandolorians. A neat range of abilitys, yet benfit from commander Vader and Advanced cover to give them 30 defence at range. Not game breaking, but highly amusing. Try hitting that Dash and Rex. XD
From a flavour perspective, so many bounty hunters to mess around with, so much new charcters to add into RP. For the EU sort of thing for that era, this is a little gold mine. Plus the bounty Hunters for most part will replace their old counterparts. I really like that set from that perspective.

I'm not too impressed with Dark Times. The bounty hunters are very cool, the sculpts look nice, but there are some things that concern me:
The new pieces seem a little..weak. I don't mean damage wise, but defensive wise. The majority of the characters don't seem to have any defensive abilities.
Also a lot of characters I would never use: I would never run that Chewie over Chewie, RH, I would never run Boussh when for less points I could run Zayne or Jarael. I can't speak for characters whose stats we haven't seen yet. The new force powers are too risky. the new jedi can dish out a lot of damage if you boost them, but that ties up a lot of points. I just see the new characters having trouble taking on ones from previous sets.

Where have you seen Chewie?
There are good pieces. No good pieces are replaced, so that means minimal powercreep (though I am still sad about the Elite Stormtrooper).

I think the Dengar piece with the final kill or whatever its called ability will be a nice piece to build around. Also Bossk and Ig-88's new abilities to affect more than one ally won't be game changing but it will make opponents think more about their approach to playing.
Also Hett's commander affect for Tuskens will bring out more playability in some older pieces, which is nice. Lastly we are getting closer and cloesr for me to build an all Rodian team. J/K.
And I know this is the wrong place but I have to ask, did I hear mouse droids are going to be UC's in this set? Or is that for Masters of the force?

having seen the set, its by far the best of the 40 fig sets in terms of overall balance. It doesnt have a bunch of stand alone beat sticks but pretty much everything is good/decent solo but they synergize with squad types nicely.
that being said i believe the new veers will bring a whole new edge to the imps.

im excited for the re-done bounty hunters. i think this set will offer a little bit of everything to most players. i think the new force powers will take a little time to figure out if theyre really worth it.

I have to say, I'm pretty excited about this set. A bunch of Fringe means that every faction gets something new to play with. There are a lot of new characters, and the reprints are mostly of characters whose previous incarnations are no longer competitive, so they almost aren't reprints.
A new, common 3 point Fringe piece is great too--especially for new players who can't get ahold of Ewoks, Ugnaughts, or Mouse Droids.
As someone who plays a lot of Rebels, I enjoy low to mid priced Uniques, and I'm excited about all of them in this set--especially Kir Kanos, because Imps have always been lacking in that area.

I'm liking the new set alot. The paint schemes to me are top notch. The power creep doesn't seem to show and we get a bunch of new skills to play with.

Well, I was about to stop collecting because I was getting tired of Clone Wars era pieces, but Dark Times has enough interesting pieces to keep me interested.
