does lightsaber sweep get around Bombad Gungan since it doesn't require targeting?
also i seem to recall a post about Lord vader being able to kill a diplomat using sweep and overwhelming force, could someone please explain that to me.
cheers

The Lord Vader is an easy one: Sweep is used to bypass the "cannot target" portion of the Diplomat SA. Then, you cannot use an ability to prevent an Overwhelming Force attack. Diplomat is just a special ability and therefore OF bypasses it.
Bombad Gungan is because of another reason: you cannot use a special ability to redirect the Overwhelming Force attack. Bombad Gungan is also just a special ability and therefore OF bypasses it.
Simple huh?
*Edit: forgot that you needed Sweep to bypass the "cannot target" portion of Diplomat.

Lightsaber Sweep does not target, so Bombad Gungan cannot be used against it.
As for how Overwhelming Force combined with Lightsaber Sweep works against diplomats: Diplomat prevents the character from being targeted or attacked. Both Abilities negate or bypass one of the two restrictions. Lightsaber Sweep does not target, and Overwhelming Force prevents Diplomat from preventing Lord Vader's attacks. So, both abilities, when combined, will allow Lord Vader to attack diplomats.

No, Lightsaber Sweep never allows to attack a Diplomat. I'm pretty sure Overwhelming Force doesn't either.
Diplomat says they cannot be targetted or ATTACKED. Sweep still generates an Attack. So, you can't use Sweep against a Diplomat.
And Overwhelming Force just says that the attack cannot be prevented or redirected this turn. I think that might allow you to ignore Diplomat, but my gut says "no". You still have to target the diplomat with the attack, which would happen before you would declare Overwhelming Force according to the Order of Events. So, I don't think you would even be able to get to the step of using OF on a Diplomat, because you wouldn't be able to target them in the first place.
I would double check with Nickname on the WOTC forums, but my gut reaction is that neither Sweep or OF would work against a Diplomat.

Neither of the two alone will work against a Diplomat, but the two combined together would.
Lightsaber Sweep allows you to attack without targeting, and Overwhelming Force prevents your attacks from being prevented, thus getting around both stipulations of Diplomat.

I know Overwhelming on an AoO works, so Lightsaber Sweep with Overwhelming should as well.

Ooooh, I see. Using both with Lord Vader's MOTF. Cool. Hadn't thought of that.

To answer the OP's question; yes, Lightsaber Sweep gets around Jar-Jar's Bombad Gungan.

ED or Sith: was my reasoning correct for OF vs BG? I understand that Sweep works because of it being a nontargeting attack, but what about the redirecting?

Overwhelming Force prevents redirection of attacks, so Bombad Gungan will not work against it.

also with lightsaber sweep, since it doesn't require targeting, do you HAVE to attack every adjacent character? enemys and allies?

The ability says enemies. You must attack each adjacent enemy, it isn't optional.
