EDIT: DON'T POST HERE!

Well, you can if you want, but if you want to enter the Variant Squad Building League, this is not the thread you are looking for.

VSBL Rules: http://www.bloomilk.com/Forums/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=5650

Official Thread for the first challenge (which happens to be "The Entourage"): http://www.bloomilk.com/Forums/Default.aspx?g=posts&m=58047

===

MY ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

I like the crazy squad formats. So here's another one.

200-points. No faction limits.

You have one "lead" piece, and the lead piece is the only piece that is allowed to damage the enemy. The rest of the pieces are the lead character's entourage. They're just there to boost your lead piece. The members of the entourage can move and take actions, but any damage caused by other pieces will be ignored. Other effects (even from attacks) can still be used, just no damage. So you could move people (Force Push), stick them in place (Stuckuss), activate them (Jedi Mind Trick), etc.

===

Note: So far the entries have been faction-legal. By 'no faction limits', I meant that you don't have to follow faction rules for squad building. So basically think of this as a 'dream team' squad but with one superman as the whole focus of the squad.

Here's my go at it:

Lead Piece
B3 Ultra Battle Droid

Entourage
GGDAC
Battle Droid Officer
Battle Droid Sergent
Super Battle Droid Commander
A-4 Series Lab Droid X4
Mouse Droid

A triple-twin attacking Ultra Battle droid with a potential +20 attack, an extra +4 defense, and with an extra +10 damage (hitting for 30s). Add onto that endless repairing from lab droids, missiles 30, damage reduction 10, flamethrower 20, and density projector. The droid may just be unstoppable.

--Entourage--
49 Darth Tyranus, Legacy of the Dark Side
38 Obi-Wan Kenobi
36 Yoda of Dagobah
20 Captain Tarpals
14 General Rieekan
11 Human Bodyguard
8 Muun Tactics Broker
8 Probe Droid
4 Mon Calamari Tech Specialist
6 Mouse Droid x2
6 Ugnaught Demolitionist x2

(200pts. 13 activations)

Tyranus is the lead.

Tyranus with Tarpals, evade, and lots of extra force for 100 auto damage in a turn (Force Lightning 4 - twice - for 50 damage each). Sacrifice Obi-Wan right away to give Tyranus 8 extra force and MotF3. 3 rolls to block lightsabers, 4 rolls to evade. MTB to sacrifice Obi-Wan, then the fodder, then eventually Yoda to give Tyranus MotF4 and 6 more force, then finally the probe droid to kill himself. And getting initiative every single round. Bodyguard to follow Tyranus around.

Lead Piece
GM Luke

Entorage
Imperial Gov. Tarkin
Gen. Rieekan
Imperial Inquisitor
R2-D2 Astromech Droid
Mas Amedda
Obi Ghost

Luke with quad and twin, evade and mettle, R2 can tow him into position.
Inquisitor can bring people to this squad with turn to the dark side, not sure if this counts because that there is a possibility that there is no damage done.

@UggieDemo: All damage is automatically negated except by the lead piece. The inquisitor could use Turn to the Dark Side, but the damage would be ignored. Since the damage is ignored anyway, I doubt anyone would choose to roll the save. Smile

Other effects (even from attacks) can still be used, just no damage. So you could move people (Force Push), stick them in place (Stuckuss), activate them (Jedi Mind Trick), etc.

I can already see how some squads have definite advantages over others. I think my Tyranus squad would get torn to pieces by the Blizzard squad, but the Blizzard squad's whole entourage would be destroyed by the Uggernaught. But then I think Tyranus could fry the Uggernaught without too much worry.

Tyranus > Uggernaught > Blizzard > Tyranus

Just my opinion.

The GMLS squad is really tough. I imagine the "top level" squads in this format would have the lead pieces as GMLS, Darth Bane, Yobuck, Luke Snowspeeder, and IG Lancer. If Yobuck or the Lancer take out the other side's whole entourage, or the speeder plays keep-away, they'd be really tough.

49 The Jedi Exile
28 Dash Rendar, Renegade Smuggler
25 Han Solo In Stormtrooper Armor
23 Padme Amidala, Senator
17 Odd Ball

Dash is lead.

Dash has 3 attacks and twin with +18 attack and with 20damage, penetration 20, and can activate twice a round for 240damage, force for re-rolls, and R2 to move around. Dash FTWFlapper

What if the Darkside had won?

115 Grand Master Luke Skywalker
33 Emperor Palpatine on Throne
20 Cade Skywalker, Padawan
15 Lobot, Computer Liaison Officer
9 R2-D2, Astromech Droid
8 Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Spirit

Preferred Reserves:
(Lobot, CLO) 20 Twi'lek Bodyguard x2
(Lobot, CLO) 10 Caamasi Noble x2

(200pts. 6 activations)

Even if the Renewal Command effect is wasted and GMLS makes up points at a high rate having Palpatine in there makes sure he has the FP need to keep going. Cade is there to keep people alive. R2 works doors and pulls Luke around to hopefully unleash is full furry. Obi-Wan may have a hard time keeping up with GMLS but if he haunt Palpatine Mettle can make Evade pretty effective to keep that force battery active. Lobot is here to hopefully provide those Reserves for added support and protection.

27 defense in cover means an 11 to hit, so probably only 3 of the shots hit. Evade from Rieekan means on average only 1.5 get past the first evade roll. If there are free rerolls from Leia, then on average 0.75 get through to Lightsaber Defense. MotF2 means 2 chances to deflect what is probably not more than one shot. Two deflections each with free rerolls means that only about 5% of the shots will get through to cause damage. 50 damage each, but Wedge, Leia, LS Defense can get pretty ridiculous. Average damage from 6 shots would be about 10-20 damage (although of course it would always be a multiple of 50... 10-20 is just the average). And you'd only need to get lucky a couple times because every shot is so powerful.

If GMLS was based, though, with no evade he'd have a lot tougher time.

I notice neither GMLS squad above has Leia, though. Numbers on that one...

6 Atton Rand shots. On average 3 will hit if he's in cover. On average 1.5 get through evade. Can use LS Defense twice. Probably average about 50 damage in this scenario. And in this scenario it's a LOT easier to get lucky and have 2 or 3 hit. 3 hits and he'd be dead.

Ok, now the official league thread is up. The first challenge for the league is this challenge, but I wanted to create a new thread so that people are not automatically entered into the league unless they are interested in it.
