I've been playing with the idea of adding lightsaber crystal upgrades to the game using inspiration from the Rodian Trader and Czerka Scientist.
Here is one of the 4 characters I've come up with (all with different upgrades):
Jedi Enclave Scavenger 18 Points UC Fringe HP: 20 Def: 13 Atk: 6 Dam: 10
Special Abilities Melee Attack;
Pontite Crystal Upgrade (Replaces turn: Select one adjacent ally with a Force rating and a Lightsaber. That character gains Slowing Strike (Living characters hit by this character’s attack gain Speed 4 for the rest of the round. +10 Damage to non-living enemies.) for the rest of the skirmish)
Firkrann Crystal Upgrade (Replaces turn: Select one adjacent ally with a Force rating and a Lightsaber. That character gains Electric Shock +10 for the rest of the skirmish.)
Damind Crystal Upgrade (Replaces turn: Select one adjacent ally with a Force rating and a Lightsaber. That character gains Lightsaber Deflect for the rest of the skirmish. If the selected ally already has Lightsaber Deflect, they get +4 to Lightsaber Deflect rolls. A character can only benefit from one Crystal upgrade at a time.)
After the destruction of the Jedi Enclave by Malak, many would-be fortune seekers scavenged many valuable items from the Jedi to sell to the highest bidder. Thoughts?
Edited cause I wanted the Damind to be accessable to all.

Looks like a good start and the concept has much potential. I don't recall the names of crystals but a few ideas I came up with are as follows:
Unstable (??) Crystal (+10 damage. On a natural attack roll of 2, this character deals -20 damage for remainder of turn. On an attack roll of one, -20 damage and this character takes 10 damage.)
Reflective (??) Crystal (This character's required save for Lightsaber Deflect is instead 6 against attackers without a force rating and the damage prevented is redirected to the attacker. Save 11 negates.)

Looked hard at Kaiburr and couldn't figure out how to make it work with what I had done before. It's just SOO powerful... still tinkering though.

I'm wondering if, for balance issues, I'd need to add a condition to the crystal upgrades. "A character can only benefit from one Crystal ability at a time." Something like that. Hmmm... this might spawn another SA or two... Multi-Crystal Saber, Dual Weilder, etc.

Edited and added a new crystal ability to the top so that everyone would have access to Lightsaber Deflect.

I would think that the abilities granted would act like an SA or FP depending on which one it is. We have an example of this in the Impulsive (Momentum, Twin Attack, Force Renewal) abilities already.

Looks cool. How would you resolve the "has a lightsaber" part. Not all sculpts show the lightsaber. And some have the lightsaber ability, so the wording might have to take that into account. Also, would the character be in a faction other than fringe? (ie OR). This thread makes me want to hop back on KOTOR II!

This thread makes me want to hop back on KOTOR II! A character being defined as having a Lightsaber is in the glossary. I believe they need to physically have one, have a FP that has Lightsaber in it, or the Lightsaber SA. Here is another character I have in the pipe... Jedi Lightsaber Instructor 19 Points UC Old Republic HP: 50 Def: 16 Atk: 9 Dam: 20 Special AbilitiesMelee Attack; Shii-Cho Style; Affinity (May be in a Republic squad); Rubat Crystal Upgrade (Replaces turn: Select one adjacent ally with a Force rating and a Lightsaber. That character gains Lightsaber Precision for the rest of the skirmish. A character can only benefit from one Crystal upgrade at a time.) Velmorite Crystal Upgrade (Replaces turn: Select one adjacent ally with a Force rating and a Lightsaber. That character gains Lightsaber Defense for the rest of the skirmish. A character can only benefit from one Crystal upgrade at a time.) Force PowersForce 2 Lightsaber Precision Lightsaber Defense Lightsaber Instructors often gave a Padawan their first lightsaber crystal.
