I've been collecting a lot of Minis lately, but it all seems for naught since there's nobody to play with in my area. The friend I normally play with is away for the summer, and there are no play groups within convenient distance from where I live. I'm thinking about the New Jersey Regionals next weekend but I haven't played a single match nor had any practice playing since the PA-MD Regionals, so I'd likely get obliterated. And I've got work at 8 AM the next day, so meh, lol. Also, I'm not a big fan of Vassal at the moment, so that doesn't cure my itch. Not really a point to this post, just a little venting, sorry. Does anyone else have similar problems? Oh and to soothe my pain I bought a TFU booster today. Got Maris Brood and an Uggernaught, so it's not all bad.

I lived in Japan for five years and just moved back to the states last summer. Wasn't aware of Vassal back then, so I had to make do with getting friends into the game, but they weren't able to satisfy my hunger for competitive gaming. I only use Vassal for practicing for big games when I travel out of state to meet other players (I'll be seeing you in a week at NJ!) but otherwise I just play with my brother, who's been getting much better at playing competitively in the recent months. I feel your pain though, man. I can't tell you how many games I've played by myself in my room. They were fun though, and I could take as much time as I needed to deliberate on a move without someone bugging me to hurry!

I can relate. I recently moved from Chicago to Portland (Oregon) and missed regionals with my friends. I've only been here for four weeks but a cursory search turned up no SWM groups in Portland and I can't travel up to Redmond WA just to game.

And the ironic thing about me trying to host Tournaments down here is, of course, that if I'm TO, I can't play, lol.

I've basically the same problem. Not a big fan of vassel either, and the guys I've played with over the years are a half hour North through the Canadian border (2 hours with the border wait), or 2 hours South to Redmond. I go when I can, and it's been a while, but not really convenient for weekly games.
Lily, there was a group in Vancouver WA not too far from you. Met a few of them at PAX. I'll look around and see if I can remember any of there names or the store they're at.

I'm in a similar situation as well. Nobody around me really plays the game and If I go on Vassal, I suffer dice rolls so bad that I usually lose regardless of how well I play.

Yeah, same boat here. Though, I travel to Rockville, MD 3 days a week for work. If your anywhere close to that area, I think it would be worthwhile to find a spot to meet up for play-testing.

Here in OKC, OK. My wife and started having kiddos about the time I started in with Minis and I was able to play maybe once a month. Not, too mention with everyone else I played with has schedules that didn't work out well. It was hard to get together. Tulsa has a game group still going I think. My oldest kiddo is 5 going on 6 and now she and my 4 y/o twins are wanting to play so bad that I had to start making them a set to play with so they can leave mine alone. They are my hope for the future of my mini playing and RPGing.

You know, I had the same problem when all my friends around here stopped playing. Even though I didn't like it at the start , I have really got to enjoy playing on Vassal. My brother and Law play every week now on Vassal. There are a lot of really cool gamers on Vassal that are patient and willing to play. I know its not quite the same thing as the real thing, But there are a lot of really cool things about Vassal, Like all the maps and the LOS tool. Ive really gotten to love it!

I'm originally from Germantown, but I've got a job down in St. Mary's County now so I spend all my time down there now. I'm assuming none of the three days you're down here are on the weekend? lol

My number of games depends heavily on whether I can get my friends to put down their Yu-Gi-Oh cards down long enough on a wednesday to have a game.
Yeah, not very often at all really.

My uncle and I play casually and live in oregon. if you end up seeing this, I probably wont remember to look at this forum again so send me a pm, and we can play. I think thaat i heard of people that play at guardian games for prereleases also.

Here in the UK I am only in contact with two other players. They are my brothers and we hardly see each other and rarely play in person. I manage to get roughly a game a week in over vassal, but that doesn't use my minis. I have searched for play groups and can't find any.
The annoying thing is minis on ebay.co.uk sell for quite a bit sometimes, and there is a definite market for minis, but no-one seems to play openly.
I am moving to Germany in september and have made contact with a play group there. I find it funny that I have to move to a foreign country to find a play group.

I do find it interesting that you who are looking for other players have not filled in your location field accurately.

Yeah seriously, you'd think that 60 million people in England would produce more people who play. Yet, it does because the boosters are on sale and have been for a long time and eBay is always high priced. And I guess it will only get more difficult now the game is losing official support.

Honestly, that was a rule for DCI, and with DCI pretty much defunct now, as long as your other local players don't care, then it really doesn't matter if you're both TO and a player. We do it all the time here in Cincinnati. Or, the other option, is to sign up somebody like a parent or something as the 'TO'. They don't actually have to do anything, you just have to use a different name from your own. Probably not technically 'OK' by DCI's standards, but again, DCI is no more, so it really doesn't matter. :P
